Location 

The left rear display is located on the left front seat behind the head restraint.

The right rear display is located on the right front seat behind the head restraint.

Location 

The left rear display is located on the left front seat behind the head restraint.

The right rear display is located on the right front seat behind the head restraint.

IMPORTANT The displays are of identical design and the decision as to whether the display is used on the left or right side is made via the "Side" pin (left = "Side" pin to ground (circuit 31), right = "Side" pin not assigned). The following description refers to the left rear display. It also applies to the right rear display accordingly.

Task 

Visualization of all user-relevant information in rear entertainment system 

Allow usage of all audio/video devices installed on the left rear display 

The following audio/video devices can be connected via the AUX jack, for example:

Manage connected audio/video devices 

The following audio/video devices can be managed via the AUX jack, for example:

Power and resource management 

Detection of overvoltage/undervoltage combined with appropriate switch on/off behavior

Connection detection i.e. detection of which audio/video devices are connected 

Detection of the following audio/video units connected to the AUX jack, for example:

MMI 

Between rear passenger(s) and rear entertainment system via IR interface of remote control and display.

Receiving signals 

Direct lines 

CAN 

The left rear display is a subscriber to the telematics CAN. It communicates with the following components:

Generation of picture signals 

Generation of digital picture signals from analog picture signals to display associated screen on left rear display.

Generation of IR signals 

Generation of digital IR audio signals from analog audio signals for transmission to headphones (cordless) connected via the IR interface.

Output of audio signals 

Output of audio signals via following options:

IMPORTANT The volume of the audio signals can only be adjusted via the remote control for headphones connected by cable to the integrated headphone socket. For headphones (cordless) connected via the IR interface, the volume of the audio signals is adjusted via the volume control integrated in the IR headphones.

The left rear display is a subscriber to the telematics CAN. It communicates with the following components:

An audio amplifier for the integrated headphones socket (3.5 mm) is also integrated into the unit.

The left rear display has the following additional features:

Set-up of screen using "DVD-V" menu in "DISC" menu item as an example
