Remove/install propeller shaft - AR41.10-P-0050CW

25.6.10 Value modified: Self-locking nut, flexible coupling to transmission and front propeller shaft, M12 *BA41.10-P-1001-01I 
  Value changed: Self-locking nut, flex disk to rear propeller shaft or rear axle differential M12 *BA41.10-P-1002-01I 
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
NOTES Notes on bolted connections with self tapping screws   AH00.00-P-0007-01SF
NOTES Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   AH00.00-N-0001-01A
1 Shift transmission into neutral or idle position    
2.1 Remove both lower engine compartment paneling Model 204.9 AR61.20-P-1105CY
2.2 Remove engine compartment paneling Model 204.0/2/3, 207 with gasoline engine AR61.20-P-1105EW
2.3 Remove lower bottom sections of soundproofing Model 204.0/2/3, 207 with diesel engine AR94.30-P-5300EW
3 Loosen underfloor paneling (1L, 1R) in the area of the heat shields (2, 3, 4) Model 204
Model 207		 AR61.30-P-1001EC
4 Remove rear reinforcement brace from underfloor Vehicles with 4MATIC and vehicles with engine 156
TORQUE SPECIFICATION		 *BA61.10-P-1003-01H 
5 Remove rear engine crossmember Model 204 without 4MATIC with engine 272, 276, 642, model 207 AR22.10-P-1180CW
    Model 204 without 4MATIC with engine 156 AR22.10-P-1180CMG
NOTES Notes on bolted connections with self tapping screws   AH00.00-P-0007-01SF
6 Detach heat shield (2, 3, 4) in area of propeller shaft center support bearing (7) and remove    
7 Remove vibration damper from transfer case Model 204 with 4MATIC with engine 651
TORQUE SPECIFICATION		 *BA28.10-P-1007-01E 
8 Mark propeller shaft (20) IMPORTANT Apply color markings identifying the position of the propeller shaft relative to the flanges on the transmission and differential, in order to be able to reproduce the plant installation position when installing.  
9 Detach front flexible coupling (20V) from transmission and from propeller shaft (20) IMPORTANT Release fitting sleeves on flex disk. AR41.10-P-0050-09TX 
REFER TO SHOP-MADE TOOLS Drift for loosening fitting sleeves in flex disks.   WF58.50-P-4110-01A
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA41.10-P-1001-01I 
10 Detach rear flex disk (20H) from differential IMPORTANT Release fitting sleeves on flex disk.
IMPORTANT Flex disk remains on propeller shaft.		 AR41.10-P-0050-09TX 
REFER TO SHOP-MADE TOOLS Drift for loosening fitting sleeves in flex disks.   WF58.50-P-4110-01A
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA41.10-P-1002-01I 
11.1 Unhook rear section of exhaust system (5) from exhaust rubber mounts, lower and prop up Model 204 with engine 272, 642 without 4MATIC model 207  
11.2 Remove exhaust system starting from the flange connection of catalytic converter/center muffler Model 204 with engine 272, 276 and 4MATIC AR49.10-P-7100CW
11.3 Remove complete exhaust system Model 204 with engine 156 AR49.10-P-7100CW
12 Mark propeller shaft intermediate bearing (7) IMPORTANT Apply color markings identifying the position of the propeller shaft center support bearing relative to the vehicle underbody in order to reproduce the plant installation position when installing.  
13 Remove bolts on propeller shaft center support bearing (7) IMPORTANTInstallation:  The bolts may only be tightened securely when the propeller shaft (20) is securely fitted to the transmission and differential.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION		 *BA41.40-P-1001-01F 
14 Move out propeller shaft (20) to the rear    
INSPECT Checking     
15 Check propeller shaft intermediate bearing (7) for wear and damage If necessary: ↓
Remove/install propeller shaft center support bearing and replace grooved ball bearing.		 AR41.10-P-0100CW 
16 Check centering sleeves for wear If necessary: ↓
Replace centering sleeve.		 AR41.10-P-0200CW 
17 Check flex disks (20H, 20V)    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Check propeller shaft flex disks for signs of damage and deformation Model 204 AP41.10-P-4152CW 
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Model 207 AP41.10-P-4152EW
18 Install in the reverse order
