Automatic transmission (AT), general
Transmission 722.9 is an electronically controlled automatic transmission with 7 forward gears and 2 reverse gears. The ratios for the gear stages are achieved by planetary gear sets. All the transmission functions and components for this transmission are combined in one assembly module.
The integration of the electric controller unit (VGS) (Y3/8) in the transmission means that the interfaces to the wiring harness have been minimized.
With model 216 or model 221 as of 1.7.2010 and model 221.003 /103 as of 1.12.2010
The use of optimized transmission components, a new automatic transmission and the lowering of the working pressure and implementation of a modified software, result in an improved service life, reduced fuel consumption and enhanced shifting comfort along with changed maintenance intervals.
The transmission can be subdivided into the following assemblies:
- Torque converter with torsional damper and torque converter lockup clutch
- Torque converter with integrated centrifugal pendulum and torque converter lockup clutch (model 216 as of model year 2011 /YoM 10 model refinement package with engine 278.9 or model 221 as of model year 2011 /YoM 10 with engine 278.9, 642.8, 651.9)
- Oil pump for generating the necessary oil pressure and for reliable lubrication of the actuators and bearing points
- Electric transmission oil pump (model 216 as of model year 2011 / YoM 10 model refinement package or model 221 as from model year 2011 /YoM 10, with code (B03) ECO start/stop function) for generation of oil pressure and reliable lubrication of the actuators and bearing points at engine OFF
- Transmission housing with mechanical transmission components (planetary gear sets, park pawl, multidisk clutches and multidisk brakes) and controller unit
Data is exchanged with the following control units via the drive train CAN (CAN C):
- Intelligent servo module for DIRECT SELECT (A80)
- CDI control unit (N3/9) (on diesel engines)
- ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) (on gasoline engines)
- Control unit for transmission oil auxiliary pump (N89) (model 216 as of model year 2011 /YoM 10 model refinement package or model 221 as from model year 2011 /YoM 10, with code (B03) ECO start/stop function)
Data is exchanged with the following control units via the chassis CAN (CAN E) with the interface of the CDI or motor electronics control units:
- ESP control unit (N47-5)
- EIS [EZS] control unit (N73)
- Steering column tube module (N80)
- Central gateway control unit (N93)
Data are exchanged with the following control units with the interface of the central gateway control unit via the interior CAN (CAN B):
- Front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1)
- Rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2)
Data is exchanged with the following control unit with the interface of the central gateway control unit via the central CAN (CAN F):
- Instrument cluster (A1)
