Repairing spark plug thread - AR01.30-P-5440GZ (ML500): Notes

Thread tapping unit

	Remove/Install
1	Remove cylinder head cover		AR01.20-P-5014GZ
2	Remove spark plug	See ↓
		Replace spark plugs	AP15.10-P-1580GZ
3	Position piston of relevant cylinder to 20° - 30° crankshaft angle before TDC	Inlet valve and exhaust valve of the relevant cylinder must be closed.
4.1	Remove cylinder head	It is then only necessary to remove the cylinder head if it is not possible to insert the thread tap unit into the spark plug thread for space reasons!	AR01.30-P-5800GZ
5	Tap thread in spark plug hole and screw in threaded insert	Pack the grooves of the combination thread tap with grease for bonding the metal debris. Blow out cylinder and spark plug thread with compressed air before screwing in the threaded insert.	AR01.30-P-5440-01B

6.1	Crank engine with starter.	If the cylinder head was not replaced, the engine must be cranked several times with the starter.	AR01.10-P-0110GZ
7	Caulk threaded insert		AR01.30-P-5440-02B
8	Install in the reverse order
