Empty / fill fuel tank - AR47.10-P-4001GZ

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install    
DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by fuel igniting, risk of poisoning  caused by inhaling and swallowing fuel and risk of injury  to eyes and skin caused by contact with fuel No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking.
Pour fuels only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.
Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.

DANGER Risk of injury  caused by fingers being pinched or crushed  when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lids, tailgates or sliding roof. Keep body parts and limbs well clear of moving parts. AS00.00-Z-0011-01A
1 Open fuel filler flap and filler cap IMPORTANT so that there is no vacuum in the fuel tank when pumping out the fuel.  
2 Removes strut tower brace Model 164.8 with engine 273
IMPORTANT Remove strut tower brace at spring dome mounts.

3 Remove upper engine cover NOTES Engine 156.980: Do not tilt front engine cover but instead pry off vertically from above otherwise retaining lugs could break off.  
4 Pull off air hose via service valve (2) Engine 273  
5 Unscrew the cap (1) from service valve (2)    
6 Screw on pressure hose at service valve (2) and release fuel pressure IMPORTANT Use safety tank for collecting the fuel.  
    SPECIAL TOOL Pressure hose Fig 7
7 Turn locks (3) in direction of arrow (A) and remove cover (4) from side cover for load compartment (arrow B)    
8 Unfold rear bench seat and change cover As of model year 2009  
9.1 Pull out the fuel pump relay (F4kO) Up to model year 2009  
9.2 Remove FSCU (N118) and detach connector (1s) from connection (1d) As of model year 2009
Observe lower retaining lug.
 
10 Install in the reverse order    
  Draining     
11.1 Bridge plug contact 3 (arrow C) and plug contact 5 (arrow D) from fuel pump relay (F4kO) and empty fuel tank Up to model year 2009
If fuel cannot be pumped off because of a defective fuel pump:
 
    Empty fuel tank on systems with faulty fuel pumps

    Empty fuel tank on systems with faulty fuel pumps
MODEL 164 with ENGINE 113, 156, 272, 273 without CODE 917 (Gas-tight fuel tank) 
AR47.10-P-4000GZ 
    Use safety container to catch the fuel; observe filling capacity of the safety container.  
11.2 Connect plug connector 3 (3m) with cable (1m) and plug connector 4 (4p) with cable (1p) so that the fuel pump id actuated and the fuel tank is emptied As of model year 2009
If fuel cannot be pumped off because of a defective fuel pump:
 
    Empty fuel tank on systems with faulty fuel pumps

    Empty fuel tank on systems with faulty fuel pumps
MODEL 164 with ENGINE 113, 156, 272, 273 without CODE 917 (Gas-tight fuel tank) 
AR47.10-P-4000GZ 
    Use safety container to catch the fuel; observe filling capacity of the safety container.  
    Line routing:
- cable (1m) at ground point
- cable (1p) at circuit 30 for cargo area fuse and relay box (F4)
 
    IMPORTANT Electrical connection kit cable adapter 11

  Filling     
12 Earth the Suction Master The grounding prevents an electrostatic charge.  
13 Using the Suction Master, pump fuel from safety container through filler neck into fuel tank Pay attention to manufacturer's operating instructions and notes.

14 Close filler cap and fuel filler flap    
15 Remove the Suction Master grounding terminal
