Remove/install coolant pump - AR20.10-P-1271GZS (ML63 AMG)

MODIFICATION NOTES

6.2.07 Bolt, coolant pump to timing case cover and crankcase Engine 156 *BA20.10-P-1001-01V 
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install    
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by fingers being pinched or crushed  when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lids, tailgates or sliding roof. Keep body parts and limbs well clear of moving parts. AS00.00-Z-0011-01A
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off the lifting platform. Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
DANGER Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by scalding from contact with hot coolant spray. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing coolant. Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

1 Switch ignition off, remove ignition key (transmitter key). IMPORTANT On vehicles with Keyless Go, code 889: Press keyless go start/stop button repeatedly until ignition is switched off. Remove keyless go transmitter card or transmitter key from vehicle and store outside of transmission range (min. 2 m)  
2 Open engine hood Model 164 AR88.40-P-1000GZ

3 Remove front engine cover NOTES Do not tilt front engine cover, but lift upwards vertically otherwise the retaining lugs can break off.  
4 Raise vehicle with lifting platform Model 164 AR00.60-P-1000GZ

5 Remove bottom engine compartment paneling IMPORTANTInstallation:  Only install lower engine compartment paneling after leak test. AR61.20-P-1105GZ

6 Drain coolant from radiator   AR20.00-P-1142GZS

7 Remove electric fan   AR20.40-P-5000GZS 
8 Attach guard plate for radiator / condenser    
REFER TO SHOP-MADE TOOLS Radiator guard plate/ condenser   WF58.50-P-0110-01A
9 Loosen bolts of belt pulley (2) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA13.25-P-1002-01U 
10 Remove poly-V belt (3)   AR13.22-P-1202GZS
11 Detach the belt pulley (2) from coolant pump (1) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Only screw in bolts by hand, do not tighten.  
12 Remove guide pulley (4, 5) from coolant pump (1) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA13.25-P-1003-01U 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA13.25-P-1004-01U 
13 Remove guide pulley (6) from timing case cover TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA13.25-P-1005-01U 
14 Dismount coolant hose (9) on coolant pump (1) IMPORTANT Inspect condition of coolant hoses and hose clamps, replace if necessary.

15 Remove bolts (7) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA20.10-P-1001-01V 
16 Remove bolts (8) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA20.10-P-1001-01V 
17 Detach and remove coolant pump (1) from the timing case cover IMPORTANTInstallation:  Install new gasket  
18 Clean sealing surface on timing case cover IMPORTANTInstallation:  Clean sealing surface with clean rags otherwise leakage can occur.  
19 Clean sealing surface on coolant pump (1) IMPORTANT Only when reusing coolant pump (1).  
20 Install in the reverse order    
21 Inspect cooling system for leaks   AR20.00-P-1010GZS

DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

22 Conduct engine test run and check engine for leaks NOTES In the event of oil loss determine and eliminate cause, otherwise malfunctions, transmission damage, and serious environmental pollution may occur.
