Remove/install front brake control cable - AR42.20-P-0520RT

MODIFICATION NOTES

12.4.06 Number of notches at which the parking brake must be adjusted if up to that point there is insufficient braking effect Model 251 *BE42.20-P-1001-01H 
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by moving parts that can pinch, crush or, in extreme cases even sever extremities. Keep body parts and limbs well clear of moving parts. AS00.00-Z-0009-01A
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
1 Remove cover below instrument panel IMPORTANT Left side of vehicle AR68.10-P-1500RT
2 Remove left front floor covering   AR68.20-P-2050RT
3 Separate tie strap (3) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Install new tie straps.  
4 Detach retaining clip (2) on the left firewall INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace retaining clip (2)  
5 Release parking brake IMPORTANT Beforehand secure vehicle to prevent it rolling away.  
6 Remove securing clip (5) and withdraw front brake cable (1) out of pedal assembly (4) IMPORTANT The cable element (6) should be freely accessible when the parking brake is disengaged and be easily pulled downwards out of the pedal assembly.
IMPORTANT If the cable element (6) jams, once again ensure that the parking brake is released. Should the cable element not be free to move despite the parking brake being released, the drive plate (7) is to be pressed away from the cable element in order to loosen the splines.
 
7 Remove passenger side front seat   AR91.10-P-1000RT
8 Remove passenger side rear seat IMPORTANT 2nd seat row AR91.12-P-1000RT
9 Turn back right front floor covering (8) on the transmission tunnel inwards in the direction of the footwell    
10 Raise rear floor covering (9) inwards towards the vehicle center IMPORTANT Right side of vehicle AR68.20-P-4800RT
11 Remove retaining clips (10) and retaining clip (11) along the front brake cable (1) IMPORTANT The retaining clips (10) are fastened to the transmission tunnel and the retaining clip (11) is fastened to the center floor.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace retaining clips.
 
12 Raise vehicle using two-post lift IMPORTANT Raise the vehicle entirely off the ground. AR00.60-P-1000RT

13 Remove the clip (15) from the connecting piece (16) and unhook the outer brake cable (17, 18) from the front brake cable (1)    
14 Remove guide tube of front brake cable (13) from clip over the rear axle carrier    
15 Lower vehicle IMPORTANT Half the height. AR00.60-P-1000RT
Two-post lift *WE58.40-Z-1001-05A 
16 Remove front brake cable (1) to rear and out of vehicle IMPORTANT Remove rubber grommet (12) from body and pull front brake cable (1) carefully to the rear. In the process pull out the front brake cable between the transmission tunnel and instrument panel. Do not damage the outer grommet of the front brake cable (1) on sharp-edged components
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Guide the front brake cable (1) through the body. Do not damage the outer grommet of the front brake cable (1) on sharp-edged components
Proceed in two operation steps when pulling in the front brake cable (1):
Step one: 
Pull the front brake cable (1) initially in full length into the rear and then insert the rubber grommet (12).
Step two: 
Lead the front brake cable (1) along the transmission tunnel between the instrument panel and transmission tunnel and bring into its final installation position.
 
17 Install in the reverse order    
INSPECT Checking     
18 Engage and disengage parking brake pedal several times, then check the pedal travel (number of notches) of the parking brake pedal   *BE42.20-P-1001-01H 
IMPORTANT If the pedal travel is not within the tolerance range: ↓
Adjust parking brake AR42.20-P-0540RT
