MODIFICATION NOTES

25.4.07 Check fluid level with service fill level indicator added Step 4.2  
REMOVING Removing    
DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  caused by swallowing battery acid. Risk of injury  caused by burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A

1 Remove trunk floor covering from trunk.    
2 Remove spare tire cover or spare tire well trim panel from trunk IMPORTANT Depending on vehicle configuration.  
  Check     
3 Inspect battery and additional battery for external leaks IMPORTANT In the event of leakage: Replace battery, see: ↓
Remove/install battery
 
    Model 219 AR54.10-P-0005TX
    Model 211.0 AR54.10-P-0005T 
    Model 211.2/6 AR54.10-P-0005TA 
  Remove/install additional battery    
    Model 211 up to 31.5.06 AR54.10-P-0007T 
    Model 219 up to 31.5.06 AR54.10-P-0007TX
REFER TO FORMS Dispose of battery   OS54.10-P-0001-01Z
4.1 Check fluid level in battery, replenish with distilled water if necessary Without  service fill level indicator, not on absorbent glass mat battery.  
4.2 Check fluid level of battery With  service fill level indicator, not on absorbent glass mat battery.
IMPORTANT Fluid check via service fill level indicator, acid level is too low if colored white: Replace battery, see: ↓
Remove/install battery

5 Check battery   AR54.10-P-1129-01A 
    Cold cranking amps as per EN
Midtronics battery tester with test clamps

6 Reduce increased voltage after charging process On a battery that is disconnected from the onboard electrical system and with the message "Surface voltage" in the display of the Midtronics battery tester.

IMPORTANT Check the on-board electrical system battery again after the increased voltage is reduced.

7 Charge battery With the test code "Charge and check" on the Midtronics battery tester.
IMPORTANT Check the battery again after charging.

INSTALLING Install     
8 Install spare tire cover or spare tire well paneling in luggage compartment IMPORTANT Depending on vehicle configuration.  
9 Place luggage compartment floor cover in luggage compartment and close luggage compartment
