Depending on equipment installed in the vehicle one of the following control units is installed:
- Radio (A2) (not with model 463.249/271 or without code (ET4) COMAND operating and display system)
- COMAND operating, display and controller unit (for code (ET4) COMAND operating and display system or with model 463.249/271)

General
The mobile phone system function consists of the following partial functions:
- Switch on/off characteristics
- Establish call and terminate call
- Accepting a call
- Short Message Service (SMS)
- Voice control system (for code (EL1) LINGUATRONIC voice control system or with model 463.249/271)
Operating instruction
The mobile phone system is operated via:
- Buttons on the mobile phone
- Telephone buttons on the audio control unit
- Multifunction steering wheel button groups
- Voice control system (VCS [SBS]) (model 463.247/248/254/270/303/340/341 with code (EL1) LINGUATRONIC voice control system or model 463.249/271 as of model year 07.5, YoM 07)
With model 463.249/271 it is only possible to operate audio, telephone and navigation components via the multifunction steering wheel button groups and via VCS [SBS] as of model year 07.5, YoM 07.
Display
The mobile phone functions are displayed via:
- Audio control unit display
- Multifunction display (A1p13) of instrument cluster
- Mobile phone display
With model 463.249/271 it is only possible to display audio, telephone and navigation data in the multifunction display in the instrument cluster as of model year 07.5, YoM 07.
Address book supplemental information
The user can manage all the contact data in the address book (view, edit, add, delete and create). The address book contains the address entries saved in the audio control unit.
Address entries can contain the following:
- Names (surname and first name)
- Postal addresses (private or business)
- Phone numbers
- Geometric position (private or business)
- Company name
