MODEL 463.249 /271 up to 31.8.08 as of model year 2007
Depending on equipment installed in the vehicle one of the following control units is installed:
- Radio (A2) (not with model 463.249/271 or without code (ET4) COMAND operating and display system)
- COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) (for code (ET4) COMAND operating and display system or with model 463.249/271)
The term audio control unit is used for this in the function description.
Function requirements
- C. 15R On
- A mobile telephone network available in adequate strength and quality
- Compatible mobile phone plugged into the telephone handset (A34)
- Enabled Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) card inserted in mobile phone
- Correct Personal Identification Number (PIN) entered (if set on the mobile phone)
- Mobile phone and audio control unit switched on
- Mobile phone system operating error-free
Operating instruction
A call is accepted and rejected via:
- Buttons on the mobile phone
- Telephone buttons on the audio control unit
- Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
With model 463.249/271 it is only possible to operate audio, telephone and navigation components via the multifunction steering wheel button groups as of model year 07.5, YoM 07.
Call signal function sequence
The mobile phone receives a call signal via the E-net compensator (A28/3) from the telephone and fax antenna (A2/22) (model 463.247/248/249/270/271/340/341) or via the radio and cell phone antenna splitter (A28/1) (model 463.254/303) from the radio and cell phone antenna (A28) (model 463.254/303).
The caller is shown on the display of the mobile phone and this information is sent simultaneously to the UPCI [UHI] (Universal Cell phone Interface) control unit (N123/1). The UPCI [UHI] (Universal Cell phone Interface) control unit transmits the signals to the audio control unit via Media Oriented System Transport (MOST).
With model 463.247/254/303/340 or with model 463.248/270/341 without code (E66) Sound system (Harman/Kardon) the audio output is provided by the audio control unit via direct lines to the:
- Speaker Left front door (H4/1)
- Speaker Right front door (H4/2)
- Left rear door speaker (H4/5)
- Right rear door speaker (H4/6)
- Left rear speaker (H4/7)
- Right rear speaker (H4/8)
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)
- Left cockpit tweeter (H4/33)
- Right cockpit tweeter (H4/34)
With model 463.249/271 or with model 463.248/270/341 with code (E66) Sound system (Harman/Kardon) the audio output is provided by the audio control unit via the sound system amplifier to the speakers and also via the:
- Subwoofer speaker (H4/29)
At the same time the audio control unit reduces the volume of the currently active audio source (e.g. radio) by 15 dB. The audio source is not muted until the user accepts the call.
The caller ID is displayed:
- In the mobile phone display
- In the audio control unit display
- In the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1)
When in hands-free mode, the user can accept a call in one of the following ways:
- Pressing the "Accept phone call" button on the mobile phone
- Pressing the "Accept phone call" button on the audio control unit
- Pressing the accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3)
The user can reject a telephone call in one of the following ways:
- Pressing the "END" button on the mobile phone
- Pressing the "END" button on the audio control unit
- Pressing the accept/terminate phone call button
The LIN converter (N135) reads in the multifunction steering wheel button groups voltage-coded and relays the signals to the steering column tube module (N80) via the local interconnect network (LIN).
