Remove/install headlamp range control - AR82.10-P-4000GR

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install    
1 Activate Service mode in Tele-Aid emergency call system IMPORTANT Only on model 463.243/244/245/247/248/250/254/270/309/322/323/332/333 with Tele-Aid car telephone emergency call system, code ET2 AR82.95-P-0005-03GR

DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  caused by swallowing battery acid. Risk of injury  caused by burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A
2 Disconnect battery ground cable All models except model 463.248 with special protection version code 979 AR54.10-P-0003G

3 Turn rotary switch (1) for headlamp range control to "0" and remove NOTES Do not twist headlamp range controller during removal/installation, otherwise the entire system must be replaced.  
4 Remove driver-side instrument panel bottom section   AR68.10-P-1505GM
5 Detach mounting plate (2)    
6 Remove light switch module   AR54.25-P-3270GM
7 Remove steering column cover at the instrument panel Model 463.243/244/245/247/248/250/ 254/309/322/323/332/333 up to 31.5.04 AR68.10-P-1060GW

8 Remove spacer tube (3) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA46.10-P-1007-03E 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA46.10-P-1008-03E 
9 Remove front grille   AR88.00-P-2115GM
10 Remove lamp unit   AR82.10-P-4730GR 
11 Remove front bumper Models 463.243/244/245/247/248/250/ 254/309/322/323/332/333 AR88.20-P-2000GS
    Model 463.270 AR88.20-P-2000GX
12 Remove fender liner. IMPORTANT At both sides of the vehicle.  
13 Remove covering (10) IMPORTANT The covering (10) is secured with bolts at the front and the side; carefully remove elastic band between covering and fender.
IMPORTANTInstallation:  In order to make installation easier, apply a little soapy water to the elastic band.
 
14 Remove brake unit IMPORTANT Except with model 463.248 with special protection version, code 979 AR43.10-P-0360GR
15 Open grommet (4) and pull toward front IMPORTANT Remove foam rubber from grommet (4).  
16 Remove windshield washer fluid reservoir IMPORTANT Only on Model 463.322/323 AR82.35-P-6000GR 
17 Remove headlamp range control line (5) from left wheelhouse panel. IMPORTANT Do this by opening the cable ties (6).
IMPORTANTInstallation:  replace cable ties (6).
NOTES Do not damage or disconnect the hydraulic line for the headlamp range adjuster. Closed system. Otherwise the complete system must be replaced.
 
18 Remove line for headlamp range control (5) from bottom radiator cross member IMPORTANTInstallation:  Replace cable ties (7).
NOTES Do not damage or disconnect the hydraulic line for the headlamp range adjuster. Closed system. Otherwise the complete system must be replaced.
 
19 Pull headlamp adjustment unit (9) through cutouts in front end. IMPORTANT Do not kink or pull off the headlamp range controller lines (5).  
20 Remove headlamp range control NOTES Do not kink or pull off the headlamp range controller lines (5), otherwise the entire system must be replaced.
IMPORTANT Carefully pull the headlamp range controller through the firewall opening (8), the grommet (4) and the opening at the wheel well paneling.
 
21 Install in the reverse order    
22 Carry out function check    
23 Check and correct headlamp adjustment

24 Deactivate service mode in TELE AID emergency call system IMPORTANT Only on model 463.243/244/245/247/248/ 250/254/270/309/322/323/332/333 with Tele-Aid car telephone emergency call system, code ET2 AR82.95-P-0005-03GR

25 Read out fault memory and erase IMPORTANT When the work is complete stored faults must be worked on in the diagnostic trouble code memories and erased.
The stored faults may be caused by removed cables during installation or test operations as well as by simulation.
