REMOVING Removal
Remove side paneling in trunk IMPORTANT Remove only side paneling on right AR68.30-P-4800G
Disconnect connector on limit switch (S69/10) and insert bridge in connector
Remove paneling on tank partition
Expose hydraulic lines on right in trunk up to hydraulic unit IMPORTANT Open cable straps or cut
Unclip hydraulic lines from left main cylinder in trunk above tank
Open vario-roof IMPORTANT Leave trunk lid pivoted to rear
Unscrew screw (1) and remove cover (2)
Unscrew screws (3, 4) and remove cover (5)
Remove cover above cross member for roll-bar
Unhook rubber strap (6) from rear shelf on main mount
Close vario-roof IMPORTANT Vario-roof should only make contact at front, do not lock front catch
Remove limit switch (S69/11) on right main mount
Remove insert clip (7) and pin (8)
Remove snap ring (9) and pin (10)
Remove main cylinder (11) from main mount toward front and hang in vehicle passenger compartment on rear wall NOTES Do not damage piston rod when pulling out
Mark position of main mount (12) on B-pillar (arrows)
Measure interval (a) between vario-roof C-pillar and fender with feeler gauge and note SPECIAL TOOL Fig 11
Unscrew screw (13) on inside at rear of main mount
Remove connector (14) and separate from holder in direction of arrow
Separate hydraulic lines no. 31 and no. 33 from hydraulic unit IMPORTANT Pressure is present in the hydraulic lines when the vario-roof has been moved with the roof switch and the ignition is not switched off.
NOTES When separating hold a rag around the hydraulic lines, because hydraulic oil continues to run out.

SPECIAL TOOL for plugging hydraulic unit Fig 9
SPECIAL TOOL for plugging hydraulic lines Fig 10
Attach hydraulic lines and electrical wires with tape IMPORTANT To prevent the lines from catching when the vario-roof is lifted out
Open emergency actuation valve (N) on hydraulic unit to stop with 6 mm Allen wrench NOTES Open emergency actuation valve only with roof put down or closed and ignition switched off to avoid damaging the gasket on the emergency actuation valve (N) which would prevent pressure from building up in the system.
Put vario-roof down into trunk by hand
Unscrew screws (13)
Push trunk lid closed and pivot back by hand a number of times IMPORTANT When lifting out the vario-roof it is easier to pivot the trunk lid back
Lift out vario-roof with the aid of a second mechanic, set down on roll-bar, push trunk lid closed and set vario-roof down on suitable soft surface after moving across vehicle toward rear
INSTALLING Installation
Align plates (15) on B-pillar IMPORTANT Do not mix up plates, because number of plates on each side may differ
Push trunk lid closed, set down vario-roof on roll-bar with the aid of a second mechanic, pivot trunk lid back and set vario-roof down on B-pillars NOTES When installing do not pinch hydraulic lines and electrical wiring
Screw in screws (13)
Align main mount with mark on B-pillar and tighten screws (13) lightly
Pivot vario-roof out of trunk by hand and lay down on supports on cross member above windshield
Connect hydraulic lines no. 31 and 33 to hydraulic unit
Connect connector (14) and fasten to holder
Press cap into front roof paneling
Turn catch clockwise to stop with 6 mm Allen wrench (left arrow) and allow to catch, then turn counterclockwise to stop (right arrow) and lock catch IMPORTANT The slide (16) in the catch should engage in the cam (17) on the C-pillar
Loosen screws (13) and hit the vario-roof lightly with open hand a number of times in the area of the roof separation IMPORTANT This eliminates any tension in the main mount or moving parts
Check the position of the main mount or the interval (a) between the vario-roof and fender and correct, if necessary IMPORTANT Corrections are possible only to a very small extent when the vario-roof is locked at the front.
Screw in screw (13) and tighten all screws on main mount   *BA77.33-P-1007-01A
Install hydraulic cylinder (11) on main mount (12)
Install limit switch (S69/11) on main mount (12)
Close emergency actuation valve (N) on hydraulic unit IMPORTANT Tightening torque 3+0.5 Nm
Route hydraulic lines and electrical leads in trunk and fasten
Hook rubber strap (6) from rear shelf on main mount
Open and close vario-roof carefully a number of times with the roof switch
Check roof contour with template SPECIAL TOOL Fig 12
IMPORTANT If deviations are present ↓
    IMPORTANT Correct adjustment of vario-roof ↓ AR77.50-P-3030G
IMPORTANT Check adjustment of crank windows ↓ AR72.10-P-1950G
