Removal and installation of transmission with torque converter - AR27.10-P-0500A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Removal, installation    
1 Connect battery ground cable    
2 Press off ball socket, compress plastic clip with pliers and remove control pressure cable (98)    
3 Unscrew drain plugs (2, 4a) on torque converter and transmission, drain transmission oil NOTES If the transmission oil smells burnt or is interspersed with lining abrasion, the torque converter, oil cooler lines and oil cooler must be flushed out. ↓
Refer to work step 22.
NOTES If there are metal chips in the transmission oil, the torque converter must be replaced. Metal chips cannot be completely eliminated by flushing and can result in subsequent transmission damage.
IMPORTANT Comply with the local regulations for disposing of the oil.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA27.20-P-1001-01A 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA27.10-P-1001-03A 
4 Unscrew hexagon bolts (17) of carrier plate/torque converter TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA27.20-P-1002-01A 
5 Support transmission NOTES Lowering the transmission may damage components  
6 Remove rear engine cross member (19)   ra22001042120x
7 Remove exhaust bracket (10) and U-bolt (11) by unscrewing self-locking nuts (7) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Replace self-locking nuts  
8 Remove shield (5)    
9 Unscrew front propeller shaft (71) at transmission Model 124 ra4100107b050x
    Model 129 AR41.10-P-0050A
    Model 140 AR41.10-P-0050DA
    Model 210 AR41.10-P-0050B
10 Unhook exhaust system (60) at the rear mount IMPORTANT Suspend on a V-belt.  
11 Unscrew speedometer shaft (9) or inductive sensor (85a)    
12 Disconnect plug connection of solenoid valves (Y3/1x1)    
13 Unplug Lambda sensor cable on the tunnel, loosen fixing clip    
14 Detach plug (8) of starter lock-out switch IMPORTANT Turn plastic ring upwards  
15 Remove clip locking device (32) and unhook shift rod    
16 Disconnect vacuum line (12)    
17 Unscrew banjo bolts (13a) for supply and return lines of the oil cooler (13)    
18 Unscrew oil filter pipe (15)    
19 Unscrew ground strap (27) on transmission    
20 Unscrew transmission at engine block and remove downwards at an angle SPECIAL TOOL Fig 5
    IMPORTANTInstallation:  Ensure correct seating of plain dowel pins  
21 Remove, install torque converter SPECIAL TOOL AR27.20-P-0500-01A 
22 Flush out oil cooler with oil cooler pipe and torque converter IMPORTANTSPECIAL TOOL If transmission oil is burnt or interspersed with lining abrasion AR27.20-P-0500-02A 
23 Check torque converter If necessary, when replacing the torque converter, also replace the radial sealing ring of the primary pump. AR27.20-P-0500-03A 
24 Install in reverse sequence    
25 Fill transmission and torque converter IMPORTANT without changing the oil filter AP27.10-P-2702AA 
26 Check oil level in automatic transmission and correct, if necessary   AR27.00-P-0100A
