Removing and installing torque converter - AR27.20-P-0500-01A

If the transmission oil smells burnt or is interspersed with lining abrasion, the torque converter, oil cooler lines and oil cooler must be flushed out.

If there are metal shavings in the transmission oil, the torque converter must be replaced.

Metal particles cannot be completely eliminated by flushing, and may result in transmission damage later

A Removal

Position transmission vertically.
Rotate the plastic-retaining pin (arrow) for the torque converter a 1/4 revolution counterclockwise and remove
Screw grab handles (065) onto torque converter.
Pull out torque converter.

B Insertion

Grease drive flange (32) and crankshaft journals with Molykote.
Install torque converter.

When inserting, turn the torque converter to and fro so that the splines mesh. After installing torque converter, check installed height in transmission housing.
Insert plastic retaining pin (arrow) and rotate a 1/4 revolution clockwise.
Unscrew grab handles (065) from torque converter.

C Check the installed height of the torque converter in the transmission housing

Use a depth gage to measure the distance dimension "A" between the transmission housing and converter fixing.

If the correct seat of the torque converter in the transmission housing is not ensured, this leads to the destruction of the torque converter and primary pump.
