Power Liftgate (PLG) Drive Unit Removal/Installation: Notes

WARNING:
- If a malfunctioning PLG drive unit is removed, the spring pressed into it may fly off and cause injury and damage to the vehicle. When removing a PLG drive unit such as for one of the following malfunctions, perform the PLG drive unit preparation. (See POWER LIFTGATE (PLG) DRIVE UNIT PREPARATION .)
- The PLG does not stop at the fully opened position and it gradually descends.
- The PLG drive unit is deformed or damaged for some reason such as the vehicle was in an accident.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION (US) .)
- Remove the following parts:
- A-pillar trim (See A-PILLAR TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (US) .)
- Sun visor (See SUN VISOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Front map light (See FRONT MAP LIGHT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (US) .)
- Sensor cover (See SENSOR COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Assist handle (See ASSIST HANDLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Front seat belt lower anchor (See FRONT SEAT BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- B-pillar upper trim (See B-PILLAR UPPER TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Rear package tray (See REAR PACKAGE TRAY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Trunk side upper trim (See TRUNK SIDE UPPER TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- C-pillar trim (See C-PILLAR TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Remove the bolts.
- Move the headliner in the direction of the arrow shown in the illustration and detach the surface fasteners from the sunroof unit. (With sunroof system)
- Partially peel back the seaming welts.
- Slide the headliner in the direction of the arrow shown in the illustration.
- Set the headliner on the front seats and rear seats.
- Remove the clips from the roof panel.
- Disconnect the connector.
- Remove the grommet from the body panel.
- Remove the wiring harnesses from the body panel.WARNING:
- Remove the PLG drive unit securing band using two people, one person supports the liftgate. If the PLG drive unit securing band is removed without supporting the liftgate, it may fall off or close suddenly and cause injury.
- Insert a remover tool into the position shown in the illustration.
- Move the remover tool in the direction of the arrow shown in the illustration and remove the securing band.
- Remove the PLG drive unit.
- Remove the bolts. (When removing the bracket.)
- Remove the bracket. (When removing the bracket.)
- Install in the reverse order of removal. (See HEADLINER INSTALLATION NOTE .)
