Curtain Air Bag Module Removal/Installation (Us/CANADA): Notes

Location of use: Curtain air bag module

WARNING:

Handling the curtain air bag module improperly can accidentally deploy the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Read the air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the curtain air bag module. (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS (US/CANADA) .) Switch the ignition off.
Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION (US) .)
Remove the following parts:
1. Front map light (See FRONT MAP LIGHT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (US) .)
2. Sunvisor (See SUN VISOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
3. Assist handle (See ASSIST HANDLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
4. A-pillar trim (See A-PILLAR TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (US) .)
5. Front seat belt lower anchor (See FRONT SEAT BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
6. B-pillar upper trim (See B-PILLAR UPPER TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
7. Trunk side upper trim (See TRUNK SIDE UPPER TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
8. C-pillar trim (See C-PILLAR TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
9. Selector lever knob (ATX) (See SELECTOR LEVER COMPONENT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
10. Shift lever knob (MTX)
11. Upper panel (See UPPER PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)

Using a flathead screwdriver, lift the locking device carefully, however do not remove it.

Disconnect the connector.
Remove bolts A.

Remove bolts B.
Remove the clip. (See CLIP REMOVAL NOTE .)
Press the tabs of the fastener in the directions of the arrows shown in the illustration and remove the fastener.
Remove the curtain air bag module.

Install in the reverse order of removal.
Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
Verify that the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light illuminates for approx. 6 s and turns off.
- If the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light does not operate normally, refer to the onboard diagnostic system (air bag system) and perform inspection of the system. (See DTC INSPECTION .)
