Symptom Troubleshooting Chart - Climate Control

SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING CHART - CLIMATE CONTROL

Problem Possible Cause Action
  • Incorrect/erratic direction of airflow from outlet(s)
  • No vacuum to the function selector switch
  • The function selector switch leaks vacuum
  • Damaged/kinked/pinched vacuum hose
  • Leaking/damaged vacuum control motor
  • Leaking/damaged air conditioning (A/C) vacuum reservoir tank
  • Vacuum actuator arm not connected to the door lever
  • Insufficient, erratic, or no heat
  • Low engine coolant level
  • Engine overheating
  • Heater control valve
  • Plugged or partially plugged heater core
  • Temperature blend door binding/stuck
  • Temperature blend door control cable damaged/disconnected
  • Inoperative air conditioning (A/C) electric blend door actuator
  • The air conditioning (A/C) is inoperative/does not operate correctly
  • Fuse
  • A/C control relay
  • Circuitry short/open
  • A/C cycling switch damaged
  • A/C system discharged/low charge
  • Function selector switch damaged
  • The air conditioning (A/C) is always on
  • Circuitry short
  • Damaged function selector switch
  • A/C cycling switch
  • A/C control relay
  • Insufficient air conditioning (A/C) cooling
  • Restricted A/C cooling unit core orifice
  • Restricted A/C evaporator core
  • Low refrigerant level

  • The temperature control is inoperative/does not operate correctly

  • The blower motor is inoperative

  • Circuitry open/shorted
  • Damaged blower motor relay

  • Function selector switch
  • The blower motor does not operate correctly

  • Check the blower motor ground circuit for a short to ground and repair as necessary. If the blower motor switch is OK, install a new blower motor switch.
  • No operation in high blower setting
  • Damaged blower motor resistor
  • Damaged blower motor switch
  • No operation in lower speeds
  • Open circuit.
