Climate Control Pinpoint Test 4: A/C Is Always On

CLIMATE CONTROL PINPOINT TEST 4 CHART - A/C IS ALWAYS ON

PINPOINT TEST 4 A/C IS ALWAYS ON
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) PID WACF WITH THE A/C OFF
  • Key ON engine running (KOER).
  • Place the function selector switch in the OFF position.
  • Monitor the PCM PID WACF.
  • Does the PCM PID WACF read YES? 
 Yes Repair circuit (P/Y) for short. Test the system for normal operation.
No Go to step 2.
2 CHECK THE PCM PID ACCS WITH THE A/C OFF
  • Monitor the PCM PID ACCS.
  • Does the PCM PID ACCS read ON? 
 Yes Go to step 3.
No Go to step 5.
3 CHECK FOR A FALSE ACCS INPUT TO THE PCM
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect the PCM connector 0140-175.
  • Connect the breakout box, EEC V control system to the PCM 0140-175. Do not connect the breakout box to the PCM.
  • Key ON engine OFF(KOEO).
  • Measure the voltage between the breakout box pin 41 and ground.
  • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
 Yes Go to step 4.
No Install a new PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) REMOVAL / INSTALLATION . Test the system for normal operation.
4 CHECK CIRCUIT (V) FOR SHORT TO VOLTAGE
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect the function selector switch 0740-101.
  • Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO).
  • Measure the voltage between the function selector switch 0740-101 pin 2 (V) and ground.
  • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
 Yes Repair the circuit (V) for short to B+. Test the system for normal operation.
No Install a new function selector switch. Test the system for normal operation.
5 CHECK THE VOLTAGE AT THE A/C COMPRESSOR CLUTCH FIELD COIL
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect the A/C clutch solenoid connector 0740-203.
  • Key ON engine running (KOER).
  • Measure the voltage between the A/C clutch solenoid 0740-203, pin 1 (GY/W) and ground.
  • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
 Yes Go to step 6.
No Check the A/C compressor clutch air gap. See A/C COMPRESSOR MAGNETIC CLUTCH ADJUSTMENT .
6 CHECK GY/W FOR SHORT TO VOLTAGE
  • Key OFF.
  • Remove the A/C clutch relay.
  • Key ON engine running (KOER).
  • Measure the voltage between the A/C clutch solenoid 0740-203, pin 1 (GY/W) and ground.
  • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
 Yes Repair circuit (GY/W) for short to B+. Test the system for normal operation.
No Install a new A/C clutch relay. Test the system for normal operation.
