Pinpoint Test X : The Low Oil Pressure Warning Indicator Is Never Or Always On

  1. X1 CHECK THE LOW OIL PRESSURE WARNING INDICATOR USING THE DEALER TEST MODE

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Scroll to LED test.

    • Monitor the low oil pressure warning indicator.

    Does the low oil pressure warning indicator illuminate? 

    Yes  If the low oil pressure warning indicator is always on, GO to  X2 If the low oil pressure warning indicator is never on, GO to  X7
    No  Refer to IPC GUIDED ROUTINE TESTING
  2. X2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform a IPC self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to DTC Chart: IPC 
    No  GO to  X3
  3. X3 CHECK FOR A STUCK CLOSED ENGINE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect: Engine Oil Pressure Switch C1629 (1.0L GTDI)

    • Disconnect: Engine Oil Pressure Switch C103 (2.0L GDI)

    • Disconnect: Engine Oil Pressure Switch C1642 (2.0L GTDI)

    • Disconnect: Engine Oil Pressure Switch C1629 (2.3L GTDI)

    • Ignition ON.

    • Observe the low oil pressure warning indicator.

    Does the low oil pressure warning indicator turn off? 

    Yes  GO to  X6
    No  GO to  X4
  4. X4 CHECK THE OIL PRESSURE INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect: PCM C1915E (1.0L GTDI).

    • Disconnect: PCM C175E (2.0L GDI).

    • Disconnect: PCM C1381E (2.0L GTDI).

    • Disconnect: PCM C1926E (2.3L GDI).

    • Measure:

      1.0L GTDI 

      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      2.0L GDI

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  X5
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  5. X5 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) KOEO (KEY ON, ENGINE OFF) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform a PCM KOEO self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to the ENGINE CONTROLS - INTRODUCTION (EXCEPT DIESEL & HYBRID)
    No  GO to  X9
  6. X6 CHECK THE OIL PRESSURE

    • Test the engine for low oil pressure.

    Was a low oil pressure concern detected? 

    Yes  REPAIR the low oil pressure concern.
    No  INSTALL a new engine oil pressure switch.
  7. X7 CHECK FOR A STUCK OPEN ENGINE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect: Engine Oil Pressure Switch C1629 (1.0L GTDI)

    • Disconnect: Engine Oil Pressure Switch C103 (2.0L GDI)

    • Disconnect: Engine Oil Pressure Switch C1642 (2.0L GTDI)

    • Disconnect: Engine Oil Pressure Switch C1629 (2.3L GTDI)

    • Connect a fused jumper wire:

      1.0L GTDI 

      Lead 1 Measurement / Action Lead 2

    • Ignition ON.

    • Observe the low oil pressure warning indicator.

    Does the low oil pressure indicator turn on? 

    Yes  REMOVE the jumper wire. INSTALL a new engine oil pressure switch.
    No  LEAVE the jumper wire connected. GO to  X8
  8. X8 CHECK THE ENGINE OIL PRESSURE INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect: PCM C1915E (1.0L GTDI).

    • Disconnect: PCM C175E (2.0L GDI).

    • Disconnect: PCM C1381E (2.0L GTDI).

    • Disconnect: PCM C1926E (2.3L GTDI).

    • Measure:

      1.0L GTDI

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to  X9
    No  REMOVE the jumper wire. REPAIR the circuit.
  9. X9 CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect all PCM and all related in-line connectors.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the PCM and all related in-line connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, Refer to PCM GUIDED ROUTINE TESTING
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
