Pinpoint Test N : P07A3, P07A5, P286F, P287A, P2872, P2877

  1. Refer to Transmission Controls - DPS6 for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    The clutch mechanical DTCs P286F, P287A, P2872, P2877 could be an indication that one or both of the clutches is binding or partially stuck. If any electrical clutch DTCs are set they should be resolved first before proceeding with this pinpoint test.

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    TCM P07A3:00 Transmission Friction Element "A" Stuck On: No Sub Type Information This DTC sets when the TCM detects that clutch A is not disengaging or slow to disengage.
    TCM P07A5:00 Transmission Friction Element "B" Stuck On: No Sub Type Information This DTC sets when the TCM detects that clutch B is not disengaging or slow to disengage.
    TCM P286F:00 Clutch "A" Disengagement Time Performance/Too Slow: No Sub Type Information This DTC sets when the TCM detects that clutch A is slow to engage or disengage. If this DTC sets the TCM disables the gears supported by clutch A (1, 3, 5).
    TCM P287A:00 Clutch "B" Stuck Engaged: No Sub Type Information This DTC sets when the TCM detects that the clutch is not in the proper position.
    TCM P2872:00 Clutch "A" Stuck Engaged: No Sub Type Information This DTC sets when the TCM detects that the clutch is not in the proper position.
    TCM P2877:00 Clutch "B" Disengagement Time Performance/Too Slow: No Sub Type Information This DTC sets when the TCM detects that clutch B is slow to engage or disengage. If this DTC sets the TCM disables the gears supported by clutch B (2, 4, 6, R).

    Possible Sources 

  2. N1 CHECK CLUTCH PIDS

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool monitor the following PIDs, ISS_A_RAW and ISS_B_RAW.

    • Select PARK.

    • Start the engine.

    Are any RPMs indicated on either PID ISS_A_RAW and ISS_B_RAW and do they follow the engine RPM? 

    Yes  GO to  N2
    No  For Clutch A concerns, GO to Pinpoint Test A  and follow diagnostics for DTC P0806. For Clutch B concerns, GO to Pinpoint Test B  and follow the diagnostics for DTC P087B.

  3. N2 MECHANICAL CLUTCH ENGAGEMENT SYSTEM

    • Ignition OFF.

    • UNBOLT the clutch actuator motor that was showing RPMs from the transmission case pocket.

    • Connect Clutch actuator motor electrical connector (Vehicle won't start if disconnected).

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool monitor the following PIDs, ISS_A_RAW and ISS_B_RAW.

    • Start the engine.

    Did the clutch PID that was showing RPMs previously go to zero RPMs? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new clutch actuator motor, REFER to: Clutch Actuator Motor .
    No  GO to  N3

  4. N3 CHECK CLUTCH ACTUATOR LEVER

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Using the appropriate essential tool, rotate the clutch actuator lever counter-clockwise.

    Does the clutch actuator lever rotate counter-clockwise freely? 

    Yes  One or both of the clutches is stuck in the engaged position, REFER to: Clutch and Damper Unit .
    No  INSTALL a new clutch actuator lever or bearing. REFER to: Clutch Actuator .
