Pinpoint Test B : P087A, P087B, P087E, P090A, P090B, P090C, P090D

  1. Refer to Transmission Controls - DPS6 for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    Clutch motor 2 is a 3 phase bi-directional DC motor that is controlled by the TCM. The TCM monitors the clutch motor position using three Hall-effect sensor inputs.

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    TCM P087A:00 Clutch Position Sensor "B" Circuit: No Sub Type Information Clutch motor B fault detected.
    TCM P087B:00 Clutch Position Sensor "B" Circuit Range/Performance: No Sub Type Information Clutch motor B hall effect sensor fault detected.
    TCM P087E:00 Clutch Position Sensor "B" Circuit Intermittent: No Sub Type Information Clutch motor B sequence fault detected.
    TCM P090A:00 Clutch "B" Actuator Control Circuit/Open: No Sub Type Information Open circuit detected on one of the 3 phase circuits.
    TCM P090B:00 Clutch "B" Actuator Control Circuit Performance: No Sub Type Information This DTC sets along with P090A, P090C and/or P090D. Used to turn on the wrench light.
    TCM P090C:00 Clutch "B" Actuator Control Circuit Low: No Sub Type Information Short to ground detected on one of the 3 phase circuits.
    TCM P090D:00 Clutch "B" Actuator Control Circuit High: No Sub Type Information Short to power detected on one of the 3 phase circuits.

    Possible Sources 

    • Connectors damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals
    • Clutch position sensor
    • Clutch motor
    • TCM
    • TCM ground

  2. B1 READ AND RECORD ALL DTCS

    • Using the diagnostic scan tool, retrieve all DTCs.

    Are DTCs P087A, P087B, P087E, P090A, P090B, P090C and/or P090D present? 

    Yes  For DTCs P087A, P087B and/or P087E, GO to  B2 For DTCs P090A, P090B, P090C and/or P090D GO to  B18
    No  REFER to: Special Testing Procedures . Clutch 2.
  3. B2 CONFIRM TCM AND CLUTCH MOTOR CONNECTORS ARE LATCHED

    • Ignition OFF.

    • PUSH, PULL, CLICK C1634 to confirm the clutch motor is connected.

    • VERIFY C1750A is connected and the lock lever is in the lock position.

    • VERIFY C1750B is connected and the lock lever is in the lock position.

    Are the clutch motor and TCM connectors fully connected? 

    Yes  GO to  B3.
    No  CONNECT the connectors and LOCK the lock levers on the clutch motors and the TCM. CLEAR the DTCs. Using the diagnostic scan tool, CARRY OUT the KOER self-test. If DTCs return, GO to  B3
  4. B3 CHECK THE HALL-EFFECT POWER CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect Clutch Motor 2 C1634 .

    • Inspect the connector for damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the voltage is greater than 4.5 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  B7
    No  GO to  B4
  5. B4 CHECK THE HALL-EFFECT POWER CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Inspect the connectors for damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  B5
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  6. B5 CHECK THE HALL-EFFECT POWER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  B6
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  7. B6 TEST FOR FAILED MECHANICAL COMPONENTS

    Does PPT N indicate a failed component? 

    Yes  INSTALL new components as necessary.
    No  INSTALL a new TCM . REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) . PROGRAM the TCM with the latest calibration, REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) Adaptive Learning .
  8. B7 CHECK THE HALL-EFFECT GROUND CIRCUIT

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the voltage greater than 4.5 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  B11
    No  GO to  B8
  9. B8 CHECK THE HALL-EFFECT GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Inspect the connectors for damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  B9
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  10. B9 CHECK THE HALL-EFFECT GROUND CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO POWER

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit.
    No  GO to  B10
  11. B10 TEST FOR FAILED MECHANICAL COMPONENTS

    Does PPT N indicate a failed component? 

    Yes  INSTALL new components as necessary.
    No  INSTALL a new TCM . REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) . PROGRAM the TCM with the latest calibration, REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) Adaptive Learning .
  12. B11 CHECK THE HALL-EFFECT SIGNAL CIRCUIT VOLTAGES

    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  B15
    No  GO to  B12
  13. B12 CHECK THE HALL-EFFECT SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

    • Inspect the connector for damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  B13
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  14. B13 CHECK THE HALL-EFFECT SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Measure:

    Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  B14
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  15. B14 TEST FOR FAILED MECHANICAL COMPONENTS

    Does PPT N indicate a failed component? 

    Yes  INSTALL new components as necessary.
    No  INSTALL a new TCM . REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) . PROGRAM the TCM with the latest calibration, REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) Adaptive Learning .
  16. B15 CHECK THE HALL-EFFECT SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO POWER

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Inspect the connector for damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit.
    No  SWAP clutch motor 2 with clutch motor 1 and GO to  B16
  17. B16 RUN COMPONENT TEST

    Are DTCs P087A, P087B and/or P087E still present? 

    Yes  GO to  B17
    No  If DTCs P0900, P0901, P0902 and/or P0903 are now present, confirmed DTCs have followed the clutch motor to the new location. INSTALL a new clutch motor 1. REFER to: Clutch Actuator Motor . CARRY OUT the Clutch Adaptive Learn, REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) Adaptive Learning . Road test to verify operation.
  18. B17 TEST FOR FAILED MECHANICAL COMPONENTS 

    Does PPT N indicate a failed component? 

    Yes  INSTALL new components as necessary.
    No  INSTALL a new TCM . REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) . PROGRAM the TCM with the latest calibration, REFER to:Transmission Control Module (TCM) Adaptive Learning .
  19. B18 CHECK THE CLUTCH MOTOR 3 PHASE CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect Clutch Motor 2 C1634
    • Inspect the connectors for damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms on all circuits? 

    Yes  GO to  B19
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  20. B19 CHECK THE CLUTCH MOTOR 3 PHASE CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms? 

    Yes  SWAP clutch motor 2 with clutch motor 1 and GO to  B20
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  21. B20 RUN COMPONENT TEST 

    Are DTCs P090A, P090B, P090C and/or P090D still present? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new TCM . REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) . PROGRAM the TCM with the latest calibration, Refer to Transmission Control Module (TCM) Adaptive Learning .
    No  If DTC s P0900, P0901, P0902 and/or P0903 are now present, confirm DTC s have followed the clutch motor to the new location. INSTALL a new clutch motor 1. REFER to: Clutch Actuator Motor . CARRY OUT the Clutch Adaptive Learn, REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) Adaptive Learning  Road test to verify operation.
