Pinpoint Test A : P0805, P0806, P0809, P0900, P0901, P0902, P0903

  1. Refer to Transmission Controls - DPS6 for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    Clutch motor 1 is a 3 phase bi-directional DC motor that is controlled by the TCM. The TCM monitors the clutch motor position using three Hall-effect sensor inputs.

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    TCM P0805:00 Clutch Position Sensor "A" Circuit: No Sub Type Information Clutch motor A fault detected.
    TCM P0806:00 Clutch Position Sensor "A" Circuit Range/Performance: No Sub Type Information Clutch motor A hall effect sensor fault detected.
    TCM P0809:00 Clutch Position Sensor "A" Circuit Intermittent: No Sub Type Information Clutch motor A sequence fault detected.
    TCM P0900:00 Clutch "A" Actuator Control Circuit/Open: No Sub Type Information Open circuit detected on one of the 3 phase circuits.
    TCM P0901:00 Clutch "A" Actuator Control Circuit Range/Performance: No Sub Type Information This DTC sets along with P0900, P0902 and/or P0903. Used to turn on the wrench light.
    TCM P0902:00 Clutch "A" Actuator Control Circuit Low: No Sub Type Information Short to ground detected on one of the 3 phase circuits.
    TCM P0903:00 Clutch "A" Actuator Control Circuit High: No Sub Type Information Short to power detected on one of the 3 phase circuits.

    Possible Sources 

    • Connectors damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals
    • Clutch position sensor
    • Clutch motor
    • TCM
    • TCM ground

  2. A1 READ AND RECORD ALL DTCS

    • Using the diagnostic scan tool, retrieve all DTCs.

    Are DTCs P0805, P0806, P0809, P0900, P0901, P0902 and/or P0903 present? 

    Yes  For DTCs P0805, P0806 and/or P0809, GO to  A2 For DTCs P0900, P0901, P0902 and/or P0903, GO to  A18
    No  REFER to: Special Testing Procedures . Clutch 1.
  3. A2 CONFIRM TCM AND CLUTCH MOTOR CONNECTORS ARE LATCHED

    • Ignition OFF.

    • PUSH, PULL, CLICK C1633 to confirm the clutch motor is connected.

    • VERIFY C1750A is connected and the lock lever is in the lock position.

    • VERIFY C1750B is connected and the lock lever is in the lock position.

    Are the clutch motor and TCM connectors fully connected? 

    Yes  GO to  A3
    No  CONNECT the connectors and LOCK the lock levers on the clutch motors and the TCM. CLEAR the DTCs. Using the diagnostic scan tool, carry out the KOER self-test. If DTCs return GO to  A3
  4. A3 CHECK THE HALL-EFFECT POWER CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect Clutch Motor 1 C1633 .

    • Inspect the connector for damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the voltage is greater than 4.5 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  A7
    No  GO to  A4
  5. A4 CHECK THE HALL-EFFECT POWER CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Inspect the connector for damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  A5
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  6. A5 CHECK THE HALL-EFFECT POWER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  A6
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  7. A6 CHECK THE HALL-EFFECT GROUND CIRCUIT

    Does PPT N indicate a failed component? 

    Yes  INSTALL new components as necessary.
    No  INSTALL a new TCM . REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) . PROGRAM the TCM with the latest calibration, REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) Adaptive Learning .
  8. A7 CHECK THE HALL-EFFECT GROUND CIRCUIT

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the voltage greater than 4.5 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  A11
    No  GO to  A8
  9. A8 CHECK THE HALL-EFFECT GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Inspect the connector for damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  GO to  A9
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  10. A9 CHECK THE HALL-EFFECT GROUND CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO POWER

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit.
    No  GO to  A10
  11. A10 TEST FOR FAILED MECHANICAL COMPONENTS

    Does PPT N indicate a failed component? 

    Yes  INSTALL new components as necessary.
    No  INSTALL a new TCM . REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) . PROGRAM the TCM with the latest calibration, REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) Adaptive Learning .
  12. A11 CHECK THE HALL-EFFECT SIGNAL CIRCUIT VOLTAGES

    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:

    Are the voltages greater than 2.4 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  A15
    No  GO to  A12
  13. A12 CHECK THE HALL-EFFECT SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO POWER

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Inspect the connector for damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  A15
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  14. A13 CHECK THE HALL-EFFECT SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Measure:

    Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  A14
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  15. A14 TEST FOR FAILED MECHANICAL COMPONENTS

    Does PPT N indicate a failed component? 

    Yes  INSTALL new components as necessary.
    No  INSTALL a new TCM . REFER to Transmission Control Module (TCM) . PROGRAM the TCM with the latest calibration, REFER to Transmission Control Module (TCM) Adaptive Learning .
  16. A15 CHECK THE HALL-EFFECT SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO POWER

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Inspect the connector for damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are any of the voltage greater than 4.2 volts? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit.
    No  SWAP clutch motor 1 with clutch motor 2 and GO to  A16
  17. A16 RUN COMPONENT TEST

    Are DTCs P0805, P0806, and/or P0809 still present? 

    Yes  GO to  A17
    No  If DTCs P090A, P090B, P090C and/or P090D are present, confirmed DTC's have followed the clutch motor to the new location. INSTALL a new clutch motor 2. REFER to: Clutch Actuator Motor . CARRY OUT the Clutch Adaptive Learn, REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) Adaptive Learning . Road test to verify operation.
  18. A17 TEST FOR FAILED MECHANICAL COMPONENTS 

    Does PPT N indicate a failed component? 

    Yes  INSTALL new component as necessary.
    No  INSTALL a new TCM . REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) . PROGRAM the TCM with the latest calibration, REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) Adaptive Learning .
  19. A18 CHECK THE CLUTCH MOTOR 3 PHASE CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect Clutch Motor C1633
    • Inspect the connectors for damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms on all circuits? 

    Yes  GO to  A19
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  20. A19 CHECK THE CLUTCH MOTOR 3 PHASE CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms? 

    Yes  SWAP clutch motor 1 with clutch motor 2 and GO to  A20
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  21. A20 RUN COMPONENT TEST 

    Are DTCs P0900, P0901, P0902 and/or P0903 still present? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new TCM . REFER to Transmission Control Module (TCM) . PROGRAM the TCM with the latest calibration, REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) Adaptive Learning .
    No  If DTC s P090A, P090B, P090C and/or P090D are present, confirm DTC's have followed the clutch motor to the new location. INSTALL a new clutch motor 2. REFER to: Clutch Actuator Motor . CARRY OUT the Clutch Adaptive Learn, REFER to:Transmission Control Module (TCM) Adaptive Learning . Road test to verify operation.
