Rear Axle Carrier: Installation
- INSTALL REAR AXLE CARRIER SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Install the rear axle carrier sub-assembly with the 2 bolts and nuts to the shock absorber.
Torque: 180 N*m (1,840 kgf*cm, 133 ft.*lbf)
NOTE:- Be careful not to damage the outboard joint boot.
- Be careful not to damage the speed sensor rotor.
- Prevent foreign matter from adhering to the speed sensor rotor.
HINT:
Insert the bolt from the rear side of the vehicle and tighten the bolt.
- Install the rear axle carrier sub-assembly with the 2 bolts and nuts to the shock absorber.
- TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY NO. 2
- Temporarily tighten the rear suspension arm assembly No. 2 with the bolt and nut.
HINT:
Insert the bolt from the rear side of the vehicle and lightly tighten the bolt.
- Temporarily tighten the rear suspension arm assembly No. 2 with the bolt and nut.
- TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY NO. 1
- Temporarily tighten the rear suspension arm assembly No. 1 with the bolt and nut.
HINT:
Insert the bolt from the front side of the vehicle and lightly tighten the bolt.
- Temporarily tighten the rear suspension arm assembly No. 1 with the bolt and nut.
- TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR STRUT ROD ASSEMBLY
- Temporarily tighten the strut rod assembly rear with the bolt and nut.
HINT:
Insert the bolt from the inside of the vehicle and lightly tighten the bolt.
- Temporarily tighten the strut rod assembly rear with the bolt and nut.
HINT:
Insert the bolt from the inside of the vehicle and lightly tighten the bolt.
- Temporarily tighten the strut rod assembly rear with the bolt and nut.
- INSTALL SKID CONTROL SENSOR (for 2WD) (See INSTALLATION )
- INSTALL REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY
- Install the hub and bearing assembly with the 4 bolts.
Torque: 75 N*m (765 kgf*cm, 55 ft.*lbf)
- Install the hub and bearing assembly with the 4 bolts.
- INSTALL REAR DISC (See REASSEMBLY )
- INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY
- Install the rear disc brake caliper assembly with the 2 bolts to the rear axle carrier.
Torque: 78 N*m (795 kgf*cm, 58 ft.*lbf)
- Install the rear disc brake caliper assembly with the 2 bolts to the rear axle carrier.
- CONNECT SKID CONTROL SENSOR WIRE (for 2WD)
- Connect the connector to the skid control sensor.
- INSTALL REAR SPEED SENSOR (for 4WD)
- Install the speed sensor with the bolt.
Torque: 8.0 N*m (82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf)
NOTE:- Be careful not to damage the speed sensor.
- Prevent foreign matter from adhering to the speed sensor.
- Do not twist the sensor wire when installing the sensor.
- Install the speed sensor with the bolt.
- INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT (for 4WD)
- Using a socket wrench (30 mm), install a new rear axle shaft nut.
Torque: 294 N*m (3,000 kgf*cm, 217 ft.*lbf)
HINT:
- Stake the nut after inspecting for looseness and runout in the following steps.
- While applying the brakes, install the rear axle shaft nut.
- Using a socket wrench (30 mm), install a new rear axle shaft nut.
- STABILIZE SUSPENSION (See INSTALLATION )
- FULLY TIGHTEN REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY NO. 2
- Fully tighten the rear suspension arm assembly No. 2 with the bolt and nut.
Torque: 112 N*m (1,140 kgf*cm, 83 ft.*lbf)
HINT:
While holding the nut, turn the bolt.
- Fully tighten the rear suspension arm assembly No. 2 with the bolt and nut.
- FULLY TIGHTEN REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY NO. 1
- Fully tighten the rear suspension arm assembly No. 1 with the bolt and nut.
Torque: 112 N*m (1,140 kgf*cm, 83 ft.*lbf)
HINT:
While holding the nut, turn the bolt.
- Fully tighten the rear suspension arm assembly No. 1 with the bolt and nut.
- FULLY TIGHTEN REAR STRUT ROD ASSEMBLY
- Fully tighten the rear strut rod assembly (rear axle carrier side) with the bolt and nut.
Torque: 80 N*m (816 kgf*cm, 59 ft.*lbf)
HINT:
While holding the nut, turn the bolt.
- Fully tighten the rear strut rod assembly (vehicle side) with the bolt and nut.
Torque: 80 N*m (816 kgf*cm, 59 ft.*lbf)
HINT:
While holding the nut, turn the bolt.
- Fully tighten the rear strut rod assembly (rear axle carrier side) with the bolt and nut.
- CONNECT PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY NO. 3
- Install the parking brake cable assembly No. 3 with the nut.
Torque: 6.0 N*m (61 kgf*cm, 53 in.*lbf)
- Install the parking brake cable assembly No. 3 with the nut.
- SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY
- Remove the 2 bolts, and separate the rear disc brake caliper assembly.NOTE: Use a wire or an equivalent to keep the brake caliper from hanging down by the flexible hose.
- Remove the 2 bolts, and separate the rear disc brake caliper assembly.
- REMOVE REAR DISC (See DISASSEMBLY )
- INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB BEARING LOOSENESS (See ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION )
- INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB RUNOUT (See ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION )
- INSTALL REAR DISC (See REASSEMBLY )
- INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY
- Install the rear disc brake caliper assembly with the 2 bolts to the rear axle carrier.
Torque: 78 N*m (795 kgf*cm, 58 ft.*lbf)
- Install the rear disc brake caliper assembly with the 2 bolts to the rear axle carrier.
- INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT
- Using a chisel and a hammer, stake the axle shaft nut.
- INSTALL REAR WHEEL
Torque: 103 N*m (1,050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf)
- ADJUST REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT (See REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT )
- CHECK SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL
