Problem Symptoms Table

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Toyota 4Runner. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

If there are no DTCs output but the problem still occurs, check the circuits for each problem symptom in the order given in PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  and proceed to the relevant reference.

NOTE: When replacing the master cylinder solenoid, sensor, etc., turn the ignition switch off.

HINT:

Inspect the fuse and relay before investigating the suspected areas as shown in PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE .

Inspect each malfunctioning circuit in numerical order for the corresponding symptom.

ABS does not operate
BA does not operate
EBD does not operate		 1. Check the DTC again and make sure that the normal system code is output. CHECK THE DTC AGAIN AND MAKE SURE THAT THE NORMAL SYSTEM CODE IS OUTPUT 
2. IG power source circuit IG POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT 
3. Front speed sensor circuit FRONT SPEED SENSOR CIRCUIT 
Rear speed sensor circuit REAR SPEED SENSOR CIRCUIT 
4. Check the hydraulic brake booster with the hand-held tester. W/MASTER CYLINDER BRAKE BOOSTER ASSY (W/VSC)
If abnormal, check the hydraulic circuit for leakage.  
5. Front speed sensor SPEED SENSOR FRONT LH
Rear speed sensor SPEED SENSOR REAR LH
6. Front axle w/ ABS rotor bearing assy (Speed sensor rotor) REPLACEMENT
Rear axle bearing assy (Speed sensor rotor) REPLACEMENT
7. If the symptoms still occur even after the above circuits in suspected areas are inspected and proved to be normal, replace the master cylinder solenoid. OVERHAUL
ABS does not operate efficiently
BA does not operate efficiently
EBD does not operate efficiently		 1. Check the DTC again and make sure that the normal system code is output. CHECK THE DTC AGAIN AND MAKE SURE THAT THE NORMAL SYSTEM CODE IS OUTPUT 
2. Front speed sensor circuit FRONT SPEED SENSOR CIRCUIT 
Rear speed sensor circuit REAR SPEED SENSOR CIRCUIT 
3. Stop light switch circuit STOP LIGHT SWITCH CIRCUIT 
4. Check the hydraulic brake booster with the hand-held tester. W/MASTER CYLINDER BRAKE BOOSTER ASSY (W/VSC)
If abnormal, check the hydraulic circuit for leakage. -
5. Front speed sensor SPEED SENSOR FRONT LH
Rear speed sensor SPEED SENSOR REAR LH
6. Front axle w/ ABS rotor bearing assy (Speed sensor rotor) REPLACEMENT
Rear axle bearing assy (Speed sensor rotor) REPLACEMENT
7. If the symptoms still occur even after the above circuits in suspected areas are inspected and proved to be normal, replace the master cylinder solenoid. OVERHAUL
ABS warning light abnormal (Remains on) 1. ABS warning light circuit ABS WARNING LIGHT CIRCUIT 
2. Master cylinder solenoid -
ABS warning light abnormal (Does not come on) 1. ABS warning light circuit ABS WARNING LIGHT CIRCUIT 
2. Master cylinder solenoid -
ABS sensor DTC check cannot be done 1. Check the DTC again and make sure that the normal system code is output. CHECK THE DTC AGAIN AND MAKE SURE THAT THE NORMAL SYSTEM CODE IS OUTPUT 
2. TC and CG terminal circuit TC AND CG TERMINAL CIRCUIT 
3. If the symptoms still occur even after the above circuits in suspected areas are inspected and proved to be normal, replace the master cylinder solenoid. OVERHAUL
VSC and/or TRAC does not operate 1. Check the DTC again and make sure that the normal system code is output CHECK THE DTC AGAIN AND MAKE SURE THAT THE NORMAL SYSTEM CODE IS OUTPUT 
2. IG power source circuit IG POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT 
3. Check the hydraulic circuit for leakage. -
4. Front speed sensor circuit FRONT SPEED SENSOR CIRCUIT 
Rear speed sensor circuit REAR SPEED SENSOR CIRCUIT 
5. Deceleration sensor circuit DECELERATION SENSOR CIRCUIT 
6. Yaw rate sensor circuit YAW RATE SENSOR CIRCUIT 
7. Steering angle sensor circuit STEERING ANGLE SENSOR CIRCUIT 
8. Yaw rate and deceleration sensor YAWRATE SENSOR
9. Steering angle sensor STEERING SENSOR
10. If the symptoms still occur even after the above circuits in suspected areas are inspected and proved to be normal, replace the master cylinder solenoid. OVERHAUL
VSC TRAC warning light abnormal (Remains on) 1. VSC TRAC warning light circuit VSC TRAC warning light circuit 
2. Master cylinder solenoid -
VSC TRAC warning light abnormal (Does not come on) 1. VSC TRAC warning light circuit VSC TRAC warning light circuit 
2. Master cylinder solenoid -
VSC sensor DTC check cannot be done 1. Check the DTC again and make sure that the normal system code is output. CHECK THE DTC AGAIN AND MAKE SURE THAT THE NORMAL SYSTEM CODE IS OUTPUT 
2. TC and CG terminal circuit TC AND CG TERMINAL CIRCUIT 
3. If the symptoms still occur even after the above circuits in suspected areas are inspected and proved to be normal, replace the master cylinder solenoid. OVERHAUL
Sensor and switch signal check cannot be done 1. TS and CG terminal circuit TS AND CG TERMINAL CIRCUIT 
2. Master cylinder solenoid -
Brake warning light abnormal (Remains on) 1. Brake warning light circuit BRAKE WARNING LIGHT CIRCUIT 
2. Master cylinder solenoid -
Brake warning light abnormal (Does not come on) 1. Brake warning light circuit BRAKE WARNING LIGHT CIRCUIT 
2. Master cylinder solenoid -
Slip indicator light abnormal (Remains on) 1. Slip indicator light circuit SLIP INDICATOR LIGHT CIRCUIT 
2. Master cylinder solenoid -
Slip indicator light abnormal (Does not come on) 1. Slip indicator light circuit SLIP INDICATOR LIGHT CIRCUIT 
2. Master cylinder solenoid -
