Inspection Procedure
HINT:
Start the inspection from step 1 when using the hand-held tester and start from step 3 when not using the hand-held tester.
- READ VALUE OF HAND-HELD TESTER (MOMENTARY INTERRUPTION OF FRONT SPEED SENSOR) (SEE CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS
)
- Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and push the hand-held tester main switch ON.
- Select "DATA LIST" mode on the hand-held tester.ITEMS NORMAL CONDITION TABLE

OK: Go to next step
- READ VALUE OF HAND-HELD TESTER (FRONT SPEED SENSOR) ITEMS NORMAL CONDITION TABLE

- Check that there is no difference between the speed value output from the speed sensor displayed on the hand-held tester and the speed value displayed on the speedometer when driving the vehicle.
- PERFORM TEST MODE (SIGNAL CHECK) (See TEST MODE PROCEDURE
)
- Check if test mode (signal check) DTCs are detected.
Result:

B: Go to step 9
A: Go to next step
- Check if test mode (signal check) DTCs are detected.
- INSPECT FRONT SPEED SENSOR INSTALLATION
- Check the speed sensor installation.
OK:
- The installation bolt is tightened properly.
Torque: 8.3 N.m (85 kgf.cm, 73 in.lbf)
- There is no clearance between the sensor and the front steering knuckle.
- The installation bolt is tightened properly.
NG: INSTALL FRONT SPEED SENSOR CORRECTLY OR REPLACE FRONT SPEED SENSOR (See SPEED SENSOR FRONT LH )
NOTE: Check the speed sensor signal after replacement (See TEST MODE PROCEDURE ).OK: Go to next step
- Check the speed sensor installation.
- INSPECT SPEED SENSOR TIP
- Remove the front speed sensor (See SPEED SENSOR FRONT LH ).
- Check the sensor tip.
OK: No scratches or foreign matter on the sensor tip.
NG: CLEAN OR REPLACE FRONT SPEED SENSOR (See SPEED SENSOR FRONT LH )
NOTE: Check the speed sensor signal after cleaning/replacement (see TEST MODE PROCEDURE ).OK: Go to next step
- INSPECT FRONT SPEED SENSOR AND SKID CONTROL SENSOR WIRE
- Install the front speed sensor.
- Turn the ignition switch off.
- Disconnect the front speed sensor connector.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in TERMINALS RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE .

- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in TERMINALS RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE .

- INSPECT MASTER CYLINDER SOLENOID
- Reconnect the skid control ECU connector.
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
- Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in Fig 5.

NG: REPLACE MASTER CYLINDER SOLENOID (SEE OVERHAUL )
OK: Go to next step
- RECONFIRM DTC
- Clear the DTCs (See DTC CHECK/CLEAR ).
- Drive the vehicle at a speed of approximately 20 mph (32 km/h) or more for 60 seconds or more.
- Check if the same pending DTCs are detected (See DTC CHECK/CLEAR ).
HINT:
Reinstall the sensors, connectors, etc. and restore the previous vehicle conditions before rechecking for DTCs.
Result:

- REPLACE FRONT SPEED SENSOR
- Replace the front speed sensor (See SPEED SENSOR FRONT LH
).NOTE: Check the speed sensor signal after replacement (See TEST MODE PROCEDURE ).
- Replace the front speed sensor (See SPEED SENSOR FRONT LH
).
- RECONFIRM DTC
- Clear the DTCs (See DTC CHECK/CLEAR ).
- Drive the vehicle at a speed of approximately 20 mph (32 km/h) or more for 60 seconds or more.
- Check if the same pending DTCs are detected (See DTC CHECK/CLEAR ).
HINT:

- INSPECT SPEED SENSOR ROTOR
- Remove the front axle w/ ABS rotor bearing assy (See REPLACEMENT ).
- Check the sensor rotor.
OK: No scratches, oil, or foreign matter on the rotors.
NG: CLEAN OR REPLACE FRONT AXLE W/ ABS ROTOR BEARING ASSY (SPEED SENSOR ROTOR) (See REPLACEMENT )
NOTE: Check the speed sensor signal after cleaning/replacement (See TEST MODE PROCEDURE ).OK: Go to next step
REPLACE MASTER CYLINDER SOLENOID (See OVERHAUL )
