Turbocharger System: Turbocharger: Removal
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
- Remove the top engine cover. Refer to COVER, ENGINE, REMOVAL .
- Drain the coolant system. Refer to COOLING SYSTEM, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Remove the clean air hose. Refer to HOSE, CLEAN AIR, REMOVAL .
- Remove the crankcase pressure sensor and mounting bracket from the turbocharger. Refer to SENSOR, CRANKCASE PRESSURE, REMOVAL .
- Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to CONVERTER, CATALYTIC, REMOVAL .
- Remove the turbocharger oil return pipe. Refer to LINES, TUBES AND HOSES, TURBOCHARGER, OIL AND COOLANT, REMOVAL .
- Remove the turbocharger oil supply pipe. Refer to LINES, TUBES AND HOSES, TURBOCHARGER, OIL AND COOLANT, REMOVAL .
- Remove the dipstick. Refer to DIPSTICK TUBE, ENGINE OIL, REMOVAL .
- Remove the bolt (2) and remove the turbocharger coolant supply pipe (3) and turbocharger coolant return pipe (1) from the turbocharger.
- Reposition the turbocharger coolant supply pipe (3) and turbocharger coolant return pipe (1) away from the turbocharger.
- Remove and discard the lower turbocharger to cylinder head front nut (1) from the turbocharger heat shield.
- Remove two bolts and one nut (1) from the turbocharger and remove the heat shield (2).
- Loosen the band clamp and remove the surge valve bypass pipe (1) from the turbocharger.
- Disconnect the turbocharger wastegate actuator wire harness connector (1).
- Loosen the clamp (2) at the turbocharger outlet hose (1).
- Remove and discard the rear nuts (1) securing the turbocharger (2).
- Remove and discard the remaining nut (1) from the turbocharger (2).NOTE:
Do not lift the turbocharger by the wastegate lever (1).
- Disengage the turbocharger from the air outlet hose and remove the turbocharger assembly from the cylinder head.
- Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield. Refer to MANIFOLD, EXHAUST, REMOVAL .NOTE:
The exhaust manifold heat shield and exhaust manifold gasket are part of the same assembly. They cannot be reused and must be replaced.
