Removal And Installation

REMOVAL 

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the engine cover. Refer to COVER, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  3. Remove the powertrain control module (PCM). Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL (PCM), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  4. Release the quick-coupling and disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose (1).

  5. Remove three bolts (1a) and remove the vacuum pump with the seal (1b).
    CAUTION:

    When servicing components near the vacuum pump, avoid contact with the plastic nipple/connector fitting that connects the vacuum pump to the brake booster hose. It is possible to crack the plastic nipple resulting in a brake booster vacuum leak.

INSTALLATION 

  1. Clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and the vacuum pump. Install a new vacuum pump gasket.
  2. Align the pump drive tab with the pump drive slot located on the cam shaft.
  3. Install the vacuum pump bolts and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  4. Install the powertrain control module (PCM). Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL (PCM), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  5. Install the engine cover. Refer to COVER, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  6. Connect the negative battery cable.
  7. Run the engine and check the vacuum pump for proper operation.
