Removal And Installation
REMOVAL
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
- Remove the engine cover. Refer to COVER, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the powertrain control module (PCM). Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL (PCM), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
.
- Release the quick-coupling and disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose (1).
- Remove three bolts (1a) and remove the vacuum pump with the seal (1b).CAUTION:
When servicing components near the vacuum pump, avoid contact with the plastic nipple/connector fitting that connects the vacuum pump to the brake booster hose. It is possible to crack the plastic nipple resulting in a brake booster vacuum leak.
INSTALLATION
- Clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and the vacuum pump. Install a new vacuum pump gasket.
- Align the pump drive tab with the pump drive slot located on the cam shaft.
- Install the vacuum pump bolts and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the powertrain control module (PCM). Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL (PCM), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Install the engine cover. Refer to COVER, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Run the engine and check the vacuum pump for proper operation.
