Removal And Installation: Removal

- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
- Remove and DISCARD the intermediate shaft pinch bolt (1) securing the steering column to the pinion steering gear.
- Remove the front wheels. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Remove the belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, REMOVAL .
- Remove the front fascia. Refer to FASCIA, FRONT, REMOVAL

- Remove the bolts (1) and the load beam extensions.
- If equipped, remove the bolts and remove the reinforcement bracket (1).
- Remove the bolts (1a) and remove the lower load beams (1b).
- Remove and DISCARD
the stabilizer bar link nuts (1a) at the stabilizer bar. Separate the stabilizer bar links (1b) from the stabilizer bar.
- Remove and DISCARD
the nuts (1) securing the tie rods to the knuckles.
- Fit the special tool #1871000700 (1a) and release the tie rods (1b) from the knuckles.
- Remove the bolts (1) at the wheel control arms and separate the lower control arms from the knuckles.
- Disconnect the O2 sensor wire harness connector (1) to the catalytic converter.
- Remove the bolts (1) of the front bracket supporting the exhaust pipe.
- Remove the bolt (1) securing the exhaust pipe support bracket collar.
- Unscrew the fitting (2) and disconnect the exhaust gas Downstream Particulate Filter (DPF) outlet pipe.
- Remove and DISCARD
the nuts (3) and disconnect the exhaust pipe from the DPF.
- Remove the bolt (1) securing the rear engine mount isolator to the engine.
- Loosen the bolt (2) securing the rear engine mount isolator to the suspension crossmember.
- Loosen the bolt securing the control arm, left and right, to the suspension crossmember.
- Loosen the control arm bolts (1).
- Loosen the stabilizer bar bolts (2).
- Loosen the steering gear bolts (3).NOTE:
The following step requires the use of universal tool #2000043000, body centering conical/round pin #2000043300, crossmember centering pin/bracket #2000043500 and crossmember centering pin #2000043600.
- Using a suitable hydraulic lift, support the front suspension crossmember with the gear (1a), (1b), (1c) and (1d) as shown in the figure.
- Remove the bolts (1) attaching the front suspension crossmember to the left and right side panels.
- Remove the four bolts (1a) and remove the front suspension crossmember (1b).
- If needed, remove the following components:
- Remove the stabilizer bar. Refer to STABILIZER BAR, FRONT, REMOVAL .
- Remove the control arms. Refer to ARM, LOWER CONTROL, REMOVAL .
- Remove the steering gear. Refer to GEAR, REMOVAL .
- Remove the bolt and remove the lower reaction rod to the suspension crossmember.
