Test 9B - Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Perform TEST 9A
before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
. For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAM
. Perform TEST 3A - VERIFICATION TEST
after each repair.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect transmission 8-pin connector. Use scan tool in ohmmeter mode. Measure resistance at terminal No. 8 on transmission 8-pin connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair transmission fluid temperature sensor circuit for short to ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, go to next step.
- Connect jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 8 on transmission 8-pin connector. Use scan tool in ohmmeter mode. Measure resistance at terminal No. F6 on Transmission Control Module (TCM) connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open transmission fluid temperature signal circuit. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Connect jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 3 on transmission 8-pin connector. Use scan tool in ohmmeter mode. Measure resistance at terminal No. E11 on Transmission Control Module (TCM) connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open sensor ground circuit. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace transmission harness and transmission fluid temperature sensor.
