Test 9A - Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor (DTC 16)
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Perform TEST 2A
before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
. For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAM
. Perform TEST 3A - VERIFICATION TEST
after each repair.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
- Using scan tool, read transmission temperature sensor voltage. If voltage is less than .5 volts, to step 3). If voltage is .5-4.7 volts, go to next step. If voltage is more than 4.7 volts, go to TEST 9B .
- Disconnect Transmission Control Module (TCM) connector. Disconnect transmission 8-pin connector. Turn ignition on. Use scan tool in voltmeter mode. Measure voltage at terminal No. E3 on TCM connector. If voltage is more than 1 volt, repair governor pressure signal circuit for short to voltage. If voltage is 1 volt or less, replace TCM.
- Disconnect Transmission Control Module (TCM) connector. Disconnect transmission 8-pin connector. Turn ignition on. Use scan tool in voltmeter mode. Measure voltage at terminal No. 8 on transmission 8-pin connector. If voltage is more than 1 volt, repair transmission fluid temperature sensor circuit for short to voltage. If voltage is 1 volt or less, go to next step.
- Turn key off. Use scan tool in ohmmeter mode. Measure resistance at terminal No. 8 on transmission 8-pin connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair transmission fluid temperature sensor circuit for short to ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, replace transmission fluid temperature sensor.
