Test 15A - Overdrive Off Light Circuit (DTC 24)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Perform TEST 2A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAM  . Perform TEST 3A - VERIFICATION TEST  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect OD OFF switch connector. Turn ignition on. Use scan tool in voltmeter mode. Measure voltage at terminal No. 4 on OD OFF switch connector. If voltage is less than 9 volts, go to TEST 15C  . If voltage is 9 volts or greater, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Use scan tool in voltmeter mode. Measure voltage at terminal No. 4 on OD OFF switch connector. If voltage is more than 1 volt, repair fused ignition switch output circuit for short to battery voltage. If voltage is 1 volt or less, go to next step.
  3. Use scan tool in voltmeter mode. Measure voltage at terminal No. 5 on OD OFF switch connector. If voltage is more than 1 volt, go to next step. If voltage is 1 volt or less, go to step 5).
  4. Disconnect Transmission Control Module (TCM). Measure voltage at terminal No. 5 on OD OFF switch connector. If voltage is more than 1 volt, repair OD OFF lamp driver circuit for short to battery voltage. If voltage is 1 volt or less, replace TCM.
  5. Use scan tool in ohmmeter mode. Measure resistance at terminal No. 5 on OD OFF switch connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to TEST 15B  . If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, go to next step.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Transmission Control Module (TCM). Use external ohmmeter. Measure resistance between terminal No. 5 on OD OFF switch connector and terminal No. E13 on TCM connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open OD OFF light driver circuit. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  7. Connect OD OFF switch connector. Turn ignition on. Using jumper wire, connect and disconnect (3-5 times) wire between ground and terminal No. E13 on TCM connector. If light does not illuminate, replace OD OFF switch. If light illuminates, replace TCM.
