Entering Self-Diagnostic Mode
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Change trip odometer from "TRIP A" or "TRIP B". Turn ignition switch to OFF position. While pressing trip odometer reset switch, turn ignition switch to RUN position. Confirm that trip meter indicates "000.0".
- Press trip odometer reset switch more than 3 times within 5 seconds. All trip odometer segments should be turned on (display shows "88888.8"), indicating that diagnostic mode has been entered. If any segments are not turned on, speedometer should be replaced.
- If diagnostic mode is entered, go to next step. If diagnostic mode cannot be entered, go to SELF-DIAGNOSTIC MODE CANNOT BE ENTERED
.
- Press trip odometer reset switch. Wait one minute for gauges to stabilize. Gauges should display as illustrated. See Fig 1
. If gauges display as illustrated, no malfunction is indicated. Repair combination meter concern by symptom. See TROUBLE SHOOTING
. If any gauge does not display as shown in illustration, go to next step.
- Remove combination meter (instrument cluster). See COMBINATION METER
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check screws securing gauges and Flexible Printed Circuit (FPC). See Figure
. If screws are tight, go to next step. If screws are loose, tighten as necessary and retest system.
- If speedometer displayed as shown in illustration, go to next step. If speedometer did not display as shown in illustration, replace speedometer.
- If tachometer, fuel or temperature gauge did not display as shown in illustration, test appropriate gauge resistance. See GAUGE RESISTANCE
under COMPONENT TESTS. If gauge resistance is okay, replace FPC or speedometer as necessary. If gauge resistance is not okay, replace appropriate gauge.
