Removal Procedure

- Disconnect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
- Recover the refrigerant. Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
- Drain the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static)Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716)
- Intake Manifold Insulator Remove - Intake Manifold Insulator Replacement (LGX) .
- Remove the front compartment front sight shield. Front Compartment Front Sight Shield Replacement (Sedan)Front Compartment Front Sight Shield Replacement (Coupe)Front Compartment Front Sight Shield Replacement (ATS-V)
- Remove the air cleaner assembly. Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (LGX) .
- Remove the front compartment fuse block. Front Compartment Fuse Block Housing Replacement (With Out KlL9)Front Compartment Fuse Block Housing Replacement (With KL9)
- Remove the battery terminal from the jump start post.
- Engine Control Module Electrical Connector - Disconnect
- Reposition the engine harness on the engine.
- Radiator Inlet Hose @ Water Outlet Disconnect
- Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose @ Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe Disconnect
- Radiator Outlet Hose @ Water Pump Disconnect
- Heater Inlet Hose @ Heater Core Disconnect
- Heater Outlet Hose @ Heater Core Disconnect
- Heater Outlet Hose @ Radiator Surge Tank Disconnect
- Fuel Line @ Fuel Feed Pipe Disconnect - Fuel Feed Pipe Replacement (Fuel Tank To Engine LGX)Fuel Feed Pipe Replacement (LGX at Engine)
- Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube Remove - Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube Replacement (LGX)
- Power Brake Booster Vacuum Sensor - Disconnect
- Using mechanics wire, support the radiator assembly to the vehicle body.
- Air Conditioning Compressor Hose @ Air Conditioning Compressor Disconnect - Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement (LGX)
- Disconnect and reposition harness as necessary.
- Front Compartment Lower Noise Shield - Remove - Front Compartment Lower Noise Shield Replacement (AWD)
- Engine Lower Front Splash Shield Remove - Front Wheelhouse Splash Shield Replacement (AWD)
- Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe @ Radiator Assembly Disconnect - Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Replacement (LGX With AWD, Without V03)
- Prepare the transmission for removal. Transmission Replacement (M5N with LGX Engine)
- Prepare the transfer case for removal. Transfer Case Assembly Replacement
- Catalytic Converter Remove - Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (LGX) , and Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side (LGX)
- Secure the vehicle body to the vehicle hoist using suitable straps or binders.
- Remove the drivetrain and front suspension cradle with the powertrain attached. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Replacement (V-Series)Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Replacement (Non V-Series) .
- Lower the powertrain onto a suitable support table.
- Secure the powertrain to the support table using straps and binders.
- With the aid of an assistant, carefully raise the body from the frame.
- Ensure when raising the body the following items are clear from the frame:
- Vacuum lines
- Steering knuckles
- Electrical wiring harnesses
- Oil cooler lines
- Separate the engine from the transmission. Transmission Replacement (M5N with LGX Engine) .
NOTE:
The engine, transmission and if equipped with AWD, the transfer case is removed as an assembly from the vehicle. The following two steps will prepare the transmission and if equipped with AWD, the transfer case for removal of the assembly.
NOTE:
Removing the powertrain assembly from the vehicle could cause an unstable balance condition with the vehicle body on the vehicle hoist. Securing the vehicle body to the hoist is necessary.
NOTE:
The powertrain assembly will be removed from vehicle on the drivetrain and front suspension frame. In the next step, only perform the necessary procedures required to remove the powertrain assembly.
