Removal Procedure

NOTE:
Suspension components attached to the frame use Torque-to-Yield fasteners and must be DISCARDED and replaced with NEW Torque Angle Yield (TAY) fasteners. The frame to body fasteners are not TAY fasteners.
NOTE:
Vehicle alignment is not required if the cradle is being lowered or dropped to perform another procedure. This vehicle is equipped with a cradle to body aligning feature: cradle to body through holes or self-aligning pins that are part of the cradle or body. Only align if replacing the cradle with a NEW part and transferring components.
- Using mechanics wire, support the radiator and AC condenser assembly to the vehicle body.
- Install the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture (LF4)Engine Support Fixture (LGX) .
- Disconnect the vacuum filter (1) from the radiator assembly.
- Remove the fastener (1) from the upper left engine mount (2).
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (V-Series) .
- Remove the front wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (V-Series October 4th 2015 and Earlier)Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (V-Series October 5th 2015 and Later) .
- Remove the front wheelhouse panel splash shields. Refer to Front Wheelhouse Splash Shield Replacement (AWD) Front Wheelhouse Splash Shield Replacement (RWD) .
- Remove the front compartment lower noise shields. Refer to Front Compartment Lower Noise Shield Replacement (RWD) Front Compartment Lower Noise Shield Replacement (AWD) .
- Remove the front cradle shear plate. Refer to Front Cradle Shear Plate Replacement (V Series) .
- Remove the fastener (1) from the upper right engine mount (2).
- Remove the front compartment air deflector. Refer to Front Compartment Air Deflector Replacement (V Series) .
- Disconnect the electric power steering electrical connectors (1) from the steering gear motor (2). Refer to FEP Connectors (Steering Gear) .
- Disconnect the electrical connector (1) from the engine mount vacuum control solenoid (2).
- Detach the harness retainers (3) from the front cradle frame.
- Disconnect the lower steering intermediate shaft (1) from the electric power steering assembly (2). Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (RWD)Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (AWD) .
- Disconnect the vacuum hose connector (1) from the engine mount vacuum hose connector (2).
- Disconnect the right and left lower stabilizer shaft links from the stabilizer shaft. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (V-Series) .
- Disconnect the outer tie rod ends from the steering knuckles. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement (V-Series) .
- Disconnect the right and left electronic suspension front position sensor connectors (1) and detach the level sensor links (2) from the front lower control rear links (3).
- Disconnect the front lower control front links from the front suspension frame. Refer to Front Lower Control Front Link Replacement (V-Series)Front Lower Control Front Link Replacement (Non V-Series With AWD) .
- Disconnect the front lower control rear links from the front suspension frame. Refer to Front Lower Control Rear Link Replacement (V-Series) .
- Remove the fasteners from the charge air cooler to cradle bracket. Refer to Charge Air Cooler Replacement - Left Side (LF4) .
- Install J-39580 engine support stand under the frame.
- Lower the vehicle to the frame support table.
- Remove the eight drivetrain and front suspension frame mounting bolts (1, 2).
- With the aid of an assistant, carefully raise the body from the drivetrain and front suspension frame (3).
- Ensure when raising the body the following items are clear from the frame:
- Vacuum lines
- Steering knuckles
- Electrical wiring harnesses
- Oil coolers lines
- If the frame is being replaced, transfer the following components to the new frame;
- Stabilizer Shaft. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Replacement (V-Series) .
- Electric Belt Drive Rack and Pinion Steering Gear. Refer to Electric Belt Drive Rack and Pinion Steering Gear Replacement (V-Series) .
- Left Engine Mount. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement - Left Side (LF4)Engine Mount Replacement - Left Side (LGX) .
- Right Engine Mount. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement - Right Side (LF4)Engine Mount Replacement - Right Side (LGX)
- Transfer the vacuum system (2) to the frame and tighten the fastener (3) to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
- Install the vacuum solenoid fastener (1) and tighten to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
- Attach the vacuum line retainers to the frame.
