Removal Procedure

NOTE:
Suspension components attached to the frame use Torque-to-Yield fasteners and must be DISCARDED and replaced with NEW Torque Angle Yield (TAY) fasteners. The frame to body fasteners are not TAY fasteners.
NOTE:
Vehicle alignment is not required if the cradle is being lowered or dropped to perform another procedure. This vehicle is equipped with a cradle to body aligning feature: cradle to body through holes or self-aligning pins that are part of the cradle or body. Only align if replacing the cradle with a NEW part and transferring components.
- Using mechanics wire, support the radiator and AC condenser assembly to the vehicle body.
- Install the engine support fixture. Engine Support Fixture (LF4)
- Disconnect the vacuum filter from the radiator assembly. (1)
- Remove Engine Mount Fastener (1) @Left Engine Mount (2)
- Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (ATS-V)
- Remove the front tire and wheel assemblies. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (V-Series)
- Remove Front Wheelhouse Splash Shield (3)Front Wheelhouse Splash Shield Replacement (Rear Wheel Drive)
- Remove Front Compartment Lower Noise Shield (4)Front Compartment Lower Noise Shield Replacement (Front Wheel Drive) Front Compartment Lower Noise Shield Replacement (All Wheel Drive)
- Remove Front Cradle Shear Plate (3) Front Cradle Shear Plate Replacement (V Series)
- Remove Front Compartment Air Deflector (4)Front Compartment Air Deflector Replacement (V Series)
- Remove { If equipped }Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Fastener (1)
- Remove the right side engine mount to frame bolts. (1)
- Disconnect Electrical Connectors (1) @Power Steering Assist Motor (2)FEP Connectors (Steering Gear)
- Remove the wiring harness retainers from the frame.(3)
- Disconnect Electrical Connector (1) @ Engine Mount Vacuum Solenoid (2)
- Remove the wiring harness retainers from the frame.(3)
- Disconnect Intermediate Steering Shaft (1)Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (RWD)
- Disconnect Vacuum Hose (1) @Engine Mount Vacuum Hose (2)
- Remove Stabilizer Shaft Link (1) @Stabilizer Shaft Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (V-Series)
- Remove Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod (3) Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement (V-Series)
- Disengage Wiring Harness Retainer (1)
- Disconnect Electrical Connector (1)
- Disconnect Electronic Suspension Front Position Sensor (2) @Front Lower Control Rear Link (3)
- Remove Front Lower Control Front Link (1) @Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Front Lower Control Front Link Replacement (V-Series)
- Remove Front Lower Control Rear Link (1) @Front Steering Knuckle
Refer to Front Lower Control Rear Link Replacement (V-Series)
- Remove Charge Air Cooler Bracket Fastener (1)
- Disengage Charge Air Cooler Bracket (2)
- Remove Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe Bolt (1)
- Remove Charge Air Cooler Coolant Pump (3)Charge Air Cooler Coolant Pump Replacement (LF4)
- Remove Right Front Cradle Brace Fastener (1)
- Install J-39580 engine support stand under the frame.
- Lower the vehicle to the frame support table.
- Remove the four drivetrain and front suspension cradle front bolts (1).
- Remove the two drivetrain and front suspension cradle interior bolts (1).
- Remove the four drivetrain and front suspension cradle rear bolts (1).
- Remove the fasteners from the charge air cooler to cradle bracket. Refer to Charge Air Cooler Replacement - Left Side (LF4) .
- With the aid of an assistant, carefully raise the body from the frame. (3)
- Ensure when raising the body the following items are clear from the frame:
- Vacuum lines
- Steering knuckles
- Electrical wiring harnesses
- Oil coolers lines
NOTE:
The right front cradle brace (2) can be removed when the drivetrain and front suspension frame is lowered in the next step.
