Removal Procedure

  1. Remove Oil Pump Flow Control Solenoid Valve Harness - Oil Pump Flow Control Solenoid Valve Harness Replacement
  2. Remove Air Cleaner Assembly - Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (LGX)

  3. Remove Water Pump Pulley (2) - Water Pump Pulley Replacement (LGX)

  4. Remove Camshaft Cover - Left Side (2). - Camshaft Cover Replacement - Left Side (LGX)

  5. Remove Camshaft Cover - Right Side (2) - Camshaft Cover Replacement - Right Side (LGX) 
  6. Drain the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static)Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716)
  7. Remove Engine Oil Cooler Adapter - Engine Oil Cooler Adapter Replacement (LGX)

  8. Remove the water outlet (2) with the radiator hose and reposition aside. Water Outlet Replacement (LGX)
  9. Remove Crankshaft Balancer - Crankshaft Balancer Replacement (LGX) 
  10. Remove Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe - Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe Replacement (LGX)

  11. Disconnect Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Electrical Connector (2)
  12. Remove the engine ground fastener and ground cable attached to the front cover.
  13. Detach retainers and position engine harness aside.
  14. Disconnect Oil Pump Flow Control Solenoid Valve Electrical Connector
  15. Remove Water Pump Inlet Pipe - Water Pump Inlet Pipe Replacement (LGX)
  16. Remove Water Pump - Water Pump Replacement (LGX)

    NOTE:

    It is not necessary to remove the upper oil pan when servicing the front cover in vehicle.

  17. Remove Engine Front Cover - Engine Front Cover Removal (LGX)
  18. Disassemble the engine front cover. Engine Front Cover Disassemble (LGX)
    19. NOTE:

    Do NOT use sharp and/or metal gasket scrapers in order to clean the sealing surfaces.

    NOTE:

    Insert a piece of cardboard between the oil pan front and the oil pump in order to prevent any contaminants from falling into the oil pan.

  19. Carefully clean the engine front cover sealing surfaces. Engine Front Cover Cleaning and Inspection (LGX)
  20. Use compressed air in order to remove any engine coolant from the engine cooling passages and from the top of the oil pan scraper (windage tray).
