Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (LF4) .
  2. Remove the water pump pulley. Refer to Water Pump Replacement (LF4) .
  3. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement (LF4) .
  4. Remove the camshaft covers. Refer to Camshaft Cover Replacement - Left Side (LF4) , and Camshaft Cover Replacement - Right Side (LF4) .
  5. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static)Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716) .
  6. Remove the water outlet with the radiator hose and reposition aside. Refer to Water Outlet Replacement (LF4) .
  7. Remove the air conditioning compressor bracket. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Bracket Replacement (LF4) .
  8. Remove the generator and drive belt tensioner bracket. Refer to Generator and Drive Belt Tensioner Bracket Replacement 
  9. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement (LF4) .

  10. Remove the engine front cover with the water pump. Refer to Engine Front Cover Removal (LF4) .
  11. Disassemble the engine front cover. Refer to Engine Front Cover Disassemble (LF4) .
    12. NOTE:

    Do NOT use sharp and/or metal gasket scrapers in order to clean the sealing surfaces.

  12. Carefully clean the engine front cover sealing surfaces. Refer to Engine Front Cover Cleaning and Inspection (LF4) .
    13. NOTE:

    Insert a piece of cardboard between the oil pan front and the oil pump in order to prevent any contaminants from falling into the oil pan.

  13. Carefully clean the engine front cover sealing surfaces. Refer to Engine Front Cover Cleaning and Inspection (LF4) .
  14. Use compressed air in order to remove any engine coolant from the engine cooling passages and from the top of the oil pan scraper (windage tray).
