Pinpoint Test I: Park Lock Pawl Solenoid

  1. Refer to Transmission Controls - 8F35 for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

The park lock pawl solenoid holds the vehicle out of park during short duration engine off events (start-stop events or stay in neutral mode). The spring loaded solenoid pin is extended at zero voltage, but retracts when force is applied against the pin. The force required to retract the pin increases as voltage is applied.

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
PCM P07E4:00 Unable to Engage Park: No Sub Type Information The PCM commanded Park, but movement timed out and the TR sensor does not read Park.
PCM P07E6:00 Stuck in Park: No Sub Type Information The PCM commanded a movement out of Park, but movement timed out and the TR sensor still reads Park.
PCM P2888:00 Park Lock/Pawl Actuator Circuit/Open: No Sub Type Information The PCM detected an open circuit fault in the park lock pawl solenoid or circuitry.
PCM P2889:00 Park Lock/Pawl Actuator Circuit Low: No Sub Type Information The PCM detected a short to ground fault in the park lock pawl solenoid or circuitry.
PCM P288A:00 Park Lock/Pawl Actuator Circuit High: No Sub Type Information The PCM detected a short to power fault in the park lock pawl solenoid or circuitry.
PCM P288B:00 Park Lock/Pawl Actuator Circuit Performance: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates a non-electrical fault causing the park lock pawl solenoid to be stuck off. This DTC sets if the park system returns to park uncommanded while the vehicle is in stay in neutral mode or during a start-stop event.

    Possible Causes

    • Connectors damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires or ground and missing or damaged seals
    • Park lock pawl solenoid
    • PCM
    • Contamination sticking Park Servo Valve in Park
