Axle Assembly: Removal

- Drain the front differential fluid. Refer to: Differential Draining and Filling .
- Drain the transfer case fluid. Refer to: Transfer Case Draining and Filling .
- Remove the front halfshafts. Refer to: Front Halfshaft LH . Refer to: Front Halfshaft RH .
- Remove the dual catalytic converter Y-pipe. Refer to: Dual Catalytic Converter Y-Pipe - AWD . Refer to: Dual Catalytic Converter Y-Pipe - AWD .
- Remove the front driveshaft. Refer to: Front Driveshaft - LHD AWD .
- Using general equipment, release the clamps and position the transmission cooler coolant hoses aside.Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Detach the retainer. Disconnect and position the front axle breather hose aside.
- Remove and discard the front axle tube bolts.

- Remove and discard push type pins.
- Remove the bolt and the splash shield.
- Remove the bolt and position the wiring harness aside.

NOTE: The transmission jack is not shown for clarity.
- With the transmission jack in place to secure the front axle assembly. Remove and discard the front axle to transmission bolt.Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack
- Remove and discard the front axle to transmission bolt.
- Remove and discard the front axle to torque arm bolts. Lower the transmission jack along with front axle assembly.Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack
