Axle Assembly: Installation

  1. NOTE: Make sure that the locating dowels remain installed.

    • Clean and inspect the dowel.

    • If the dowel pin is pulled out of the axle housing during removal, install new dowel pin in the axle housing.

  2. NOTE: Make sure that the component is correctly located on the locating dowel.

    Position the front axle assembly onto the transmission bell housing by aligning the holes with the dowel pin.

  3. NOTE: Make sure that the new bolts are installed.

    Install the front axle to torque arm bolts.Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack

    Torque: 400 Nm

  4. NOTE: Make sure that the new bolts are installed.

    1. Install the new front axle to transmission bolt.

      Torque: 140 Nm

    2. Install the new front axle to transmission bolt.

      Torque: 150 Nm

  5. Install the wiring harness and the bolt.

    Torque: 35 Nm

    • Install the splash shield and bolt.

      Torque: 12 Nm

    • Install the new push type pins.

  7. NOTE: Make sure that the new bolts are installed.

    Install the new front axle tube bolts.

    Torque: 165 Nm

  8. Connect the front axle breather hose and the attach the retainer.

  9. Connect the transmission cooler coolant hoses and attach the clamps.Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

  10. Install the front halfshafts. Refer to: Front Halfshaft LH . Refer to: Front Halfshaft RH .
  11. Install the front driveshaft. Refer to: Front Driveshaft - LHD AWD .
  12. Install the dual catalytic converter Y-pipe. Refer to: Dual Catalytic Converter Y-Pipe - AWD . Refer to: Dual Catalytic Converter Y-Pipe - AWD .
  13. Fill the transfer case fluid. Refer to: Transfer Case Draining and Filling .
  14. Fill the front differential with clean fluid. Refer to: Differential Draining and Filling .
