Pinpoint Test K : DTC P2610

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    The BCM sends engine off time data to the TCM over the HS-CAN. The TCM uses this data for in-range TFT sensor diagnostics and to determine if the hydraulic circuits have had time to bleed down. The TCM compares the engine off time data from the BCM to ECT data from the PCM to determine if it is reliable.

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    TCM P2610:00 ECM/PCM Engine Off Timer Performance: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the ECT decreased by at least 16.7 deg. C (30 deg. F) while the TCM was off, but the BCM reports 0 engine off time.

    Possible Sources 

    • The vehicle is in transport mode
    • ECT sensor fault
    • Communication concern
    • Circuit open or shorted
    • PCM fault
    • BCM fault
    • TCM fault

  2. K1 VERIFY THE VEHICLE IS NOT IN TRANSPORT MODE

    • Ignition ON.

    • Check the IPC for a message indicating the vehicle is in transport mode.

    Does the IPC display a message that the vehicle is in transport mode? 

    Yes  DEACTIVATE transport mode. REFER to: Transport Mode Deactivation .
    No  GO to  K2
  3. K2 CHECK THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCs)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the KOEO and KOERPCM self-tests.

    Are any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) related to the ECT sensor present? 

    Yes  RESOLVE all diagnostic trouble codes related to the ECT sensor first. REFER to: Electronic Engine Controls .
    No  GO to  K3
  4. K3 COMPARE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) AND TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE PARAMETER IDENTIFICATIONS (PIDS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, access the PCM and monitor PID ECT.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, access the TCM and monitor PID ECT_TCM.

    Does TCM PID ECT_TCM match PCMPID ECT? 

    Yes  GO to  K4
    No  GO to  K8
  5. K4 VERIFY ENGINE OFF TIMER OPERATION

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear all diagnostic trouble codes from the TCM.

    • Road test the vehicle until the engine is at operating temperature.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, access the TCM and monitor PID ECT_TCM.

    • Record the reading of PID ECT_TCM.

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Record the time the engine was turned off.

    • NOTE: The ignition must remain off throughout the specified temperature change, otherwise the test will not complete. If the temperature does not decrease by the specified amount before the ignition is turned on, repeat this test step.

      With the ignition off, let the vehicle sit long enough that engine coolant temperature will decrease by at least 20 deg. C (36 deg. F).

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, access the TCM and monitor parameter identifications (PIDs) ECT_TCM and ENGOFF_TIMER.

    • Compare PID ECT_TCM to the previously recorded temperature.

    • Compare PID ENGOFF_TIMER to the previously recorded time the engine was turned off.

    Did PID ECT_TCM decrease by at least 20 deg. C (36 deg. F) and does PID ENGOFF_TIMER match the amount of time the engine has been off? 

    Yes  GO to  K5
    No  If PID ECT_TCM did not decrease by at least 20 deg. C (36 deg. F), REPEAT this step. If PID ENGOFF_TIMER does not match the amount of time the engine has been off, GO to  K8
  6. K5 CHECK THE TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) FOR DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE) P2610

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the TCM self-test.

    Is DTC P2610 present? 

    Yes  GO to  K6
    No  The fault is not present at this time.
  7. K6 CHECK THE TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) AND PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) ISPR CIRCUITS FOR VOLTAGE WITH THE IGNITION OFF

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect TCM C1750.

    • Disconnect PCM C1232B.

    • Inspect the connector for damaged or pushed out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.

    • With the ignition off, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      Refer to C1750-31

    Is voltage present? 

    Yes  REFER to OEM Electrical Wiring Diagram Introduction to identify and repair a short to power.
    No  GO to  K7
  8. K7 CHECK THE TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) AND PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) ISPR CIRCUITS FOR VOLTAGE WITH THE IGNITION ON

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      Refer to C1750-31

    Is the voltage on both circuits greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  K11
    No  CHECK BJB fuse F33. If the fuse is OK, REFER to OEM Electrical Wiring Diagram Introduction to identify and repair an open circuit. If the fuse is not OK, REFER to OEM Electrical Wiring Diagram Introduction to identify and repair a short to ground.
  9. K8 CHECK THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCs)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the KOEO and KOERPCM self-tests.

    Are any module communication, power supply or internal module diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) present in the PCM? 

    Yes  RESOLVE all PCM communication, power supply and internal module diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) first. REFER to: Electronic Engine Controls .
    No  GO to  K9
  10. K9 CHECK THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCs)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the BCM self-test.

    Are any module communication, power supply or internal module diagnostic trouble codes present in the BCM? 

    Yes  RESOLVE all BCM communication, power supply and internal module diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) first. REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) .
    No  GO to  K10
  11. K10 CHECK THE TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCs)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the TCM self-test.

    Are any module communication, power supply or internal module diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) present in the TCM? 

    Yes  RESOLVE all TCM communication, power supply and internal module diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) first. REFER to the DTC Chart. Refer to DTC Charts 
    No  GO to  K11
  12. K11 CHECK FOR CORRECT TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect TCM C1750 and all related in-line electrical connectors.

    • Using a good light source, inspect all  disconnected electrical connectors for the following:

      • corrosion - install new connector or terminal and clean the module pins
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals or pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
      • spread terminals - install new terminals as necessary

    • Reconnect TCM C1750 and all related in-line electrical connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Using the diagnostic scan tool, clear all DTCs.

    • Road test the vehicle.

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Let the vehicle sit long enough for the engine coolant temperature to cool by more than 16.7 deg. C (30 deg. F).

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the TCM self-test.

    Is DTC P2610 present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB (general service bulletin), SSM (special service message) or FSA (Field Service Action). If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new TCM.     No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
