Pinpoint Test C: P2535

  1. Refer to STARTING SYSTEM for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    When the ignition is turned to the START position the PCM receives a voltage signal on the crank detect circuit. When the required inputs have been received, the PCM supplies voltage and ground to the starter relay coil.

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    PCM P2535:00 Ignition Switch On/Start Position Circuit High: No Sub Type Information This DTC is set when the PCM detects a short to voltage on the crank detect circuit while engine is running.

    Possible Sources 

    • Ignition switch
    • PCM
    • Wiring, terminals or connectors

    Visual Inspection and Pre-checks 

    • Verify the BCM fuse 20 (5A).

  2. C1 RETRIEVE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform PCM self-test.

    Is PCM DTC P2535 present? 

    Yes  GO to  C2
    No  For all other PCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), REFER to the appropriate PCM DTC Chart.
  3. C2 CHECK THE CRANK DETECT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE WITH THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) DISCONNECTED

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect PCM C1551B.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  GO to  C3
    No  GO to  C5
  4. C3 CHECK THE CRANK DETECT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE WITH THE ACM (AUDIO FRONT CONTROL MODULE) DISCONNECTED

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect Ignition switch C250.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  GO to  C3
    No  INSTALL a new ignition switch. REFER to: Ignition Switch .
  5. C4 CHECK THE CRANK DETECT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE WITH THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) DISCONNECTED

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect BCM C2280B.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  GO to  C4
    No  INSTALL a new BCM.
  6. C5 CHECK THE CRANK DETECT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH DISCONNECTED

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect Ignition switch C250.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit.
    No  INSTALL a new ignition switch. REFER to: Ignition Switch .
  7. C6 CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect all PCM connectors.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connectors or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the PCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, PCM GUIDED ROUTINE TESTING
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
