Pinpoint Test T : A Door Passive Entry Feature Is Inoperative

  1. Refer to REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY AND ALARM for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    REFER to: Handles, Locks, Latches and Entry Systems - System Operation and Component Description .

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    BCM B1336:01 Left Front Door External Antenna: General Electrical Failure Sets when the BCM detects a fault from one of the circuits to the driver side keyless entry antenna (internal to the front driver exterior door handle).
    BCM B1337:01 Right Front Door External Antenna: General Electrical Failure Sets when the BCM detects a fault from one of the circuits to the passenger side keyless entry antenna (internal to the front passenger exterior door handle).
    BCM B1381:11 Left Front Door Handle Proximity Sensor: Circuit Short To Ground Sets when the BCM detects a fault from one of the circuits to the LHF exterior door handle.
    BCM B1381:15 Left Front Door Handle Proximity Sensor: Circuit Short To Battery Or Open Sets when the BCM detects a fault from one of the circuits to the LHF exterior door handle.
    BCM B1381:29 Left Front Door Handle Proximity Sensor: Signal Invalid Set when the BCM detects an activated touch sensor for more than 5 minutes.
    BCM B1382:11 Right Front Door Handle Proximity Sensor: Circuit Short To Ground Sets when the BCM detects a fault from one of the circuits to the right exterior door handle.
    BCM B1382:15 Right Front Door Handle Proximity Sensor: Circuit Short To Battery Or Open Sets when the BCM detects a fault from one of the circuits to the right exterior door handle.
    BCM B1382:29 Right Front Door Handle Proximity Sensor: Signal Invalid Set when the BCM detects an activated touch sensor for more than 5 minutes.

    Possible Sources 

    • Wiring, terminals or connectors
    • Door lock system concern
    • RKE system concern
    • Exterior door handle
    • BCM

    Visual Inspection and Pre-checks 

    • Inspect the exterior door handles for damage.

  2. NOTE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
  3. T1 CHECK THE DOOR LOCK OPERATION

    • Lock and unlock the doors using a door lock control switch.

    Do the doors lock and unlock? 

    Yes  GO to  T2
    No  REFER to the Symptom Chart: Electrical .
  4. T2 CHECK THE RKE (REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY) OPERATION

    • Press the lock and unlock buttons on a key.

    Do the doors lock and unlock? 

    Yes  GO to  T3
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test Q 
  5. T3 CHECK THE PASSIVE ENTRY OPERATION FROM BOTH FRONT DOORS

    • Operate the passive entry feature from both front doors.

    Is the passive entry feature inoperative from both front doors? 

    Yes  GO to  T4
    No  GO to  T7
  6. T4 CHECK THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE GROUND CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect: BCM C2280G.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit.
    No  GO to  T5
  7. T5 CHECK THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE GROUND CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  T6
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  8. T6 CHECK THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN (BOTH FRONT DOORS PASSIVE ENTRY INOPERATIVE)

    • Disconnect: Right Exterior Front Door Handle C634.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  T16
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  9. T7 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect: Suspect Exterior Front Door Handle.

    • Measure:

      LHF

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  T10
    No  GO to  T8
  10. T8 CHECK THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Disconnect: BCM C2280G.

    • Measure:

      LHF

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  T9
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  11. T9 CHECK THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Measure:

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  T16
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  12. T10 CHECK THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Disconnect: BCM C2280G.

    • Measure:

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  T11
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  13. T11 CHECK THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE INTERNAL ANTENNA

    • Connect: Suspect Exterior Door Handle.

    • Measure:

    Is the resistance between 1 and 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  T12
    No  INSTALL a new exterior front door handle. REFER to: Exterior Front Door Handle .
  14. T12 CHECK THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE

    • Transfer the exterior front door handle from the opposite side of the vehicle to the suspect exterior door. For example, if the left exterior front door handle is suspect, transfer the right exterior front door handle to the LHF door.

    • Connect: BCM C2280G.

    • Operate the keyless entry feature from the suspect door.

    Does the keyless entry feature operate from the suspect door? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new exterior handle. REFER to: Exterior Front Door Handle .
    No  GO to  T13
  15. T13 CHECK THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE ANTENNA CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Disconnect: BCM C2280G.

    • Disconnect: Suspect Exterior Door Front Handle.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure:

      LHF

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit in question.
    No  GO to  T14
  16. T14 CHECK THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE ANTENNA CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Measure:

      LHF

    Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  T15
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.
  17. T15 CHECK THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE ANTENNA CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

    • Measure:

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  T16
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.
  18. T16 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION

    • Disconnect and inspect all the BCM connectors.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connectors or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the BCM connectors and make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM, or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, Refer to BCM GUIDED ROUTINE TESTING
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
