Pinpoint Test AY : The Key-In-Ignition Warning Chime Is Inoperative

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    See Key-In-Ignition Warning Chime. REFER to: Warning Chimes - System Operation and Component Description .

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    BCM B10F1:14 Key In Switch: Circuit Short To Ground Or Open A continuous and on-demand DTC that sets in the BCM if an open is detected on the key-in-ignition switch input with the ignition ON.

    Possible Sources 

    • Wiring, terminals or connectors
    • Interior lighting concern
    • Key-in-ignition switch (part of the ignition switch)
    • Steering column lock and ignition switch housing
    • BCM
    • GWM concern
    • IPC

  2. AY1 CHECK THE SEATBELT WARNING CHIME OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Unbuckle the driver seatbelt.

    • Monitor the seatbelt warning chime when the ignition is transitioned from OFF to RUN for 6 seconds.

    Does the seatbelt warning chime operate for approximately 6 seconds? 

    Yes  GO to  AY2
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test BC 
  3. AY2 CHECK THE INTERIOR LAMPS OPERATION

    • Open and close the driver door.

    • Observe the interior lamps.

    Do the interior lamps operate correctly from the driver door? 

    Yes  GO to  AY3
    No  REFER to: INTERIOR LIGHTING
  4. AY3 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to DTC Chart: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) 
    No  GO to  AY4
  5. AY4 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes 
    No  GO to  AY5
  6. AY5 PERFORM THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.

    Is DTC B10F1:14 present? 

    Yes  GO to  AY6
    No  GO to  AY10
  7. AY6 CHECK THE KEY-IN-IGNITION INPUT CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Insert the key into the ignition cylinder.

    • Disconnect BCM C2280D.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      Refer to C2280D-22

      Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  AY10
    No  GO to  AY7
  8. AY7 CHECK THE KEY-IN-IGNITION INPUT CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND

    • Remove the key from the ignition cylinder.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      Refer to C2280D-22

      Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  AY8
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  9. AY8 CHECK THE KEY-IN-IGNITION INPUT CIRCUIT FOR OPEN

    • Disconnect Ignition Switch C250.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      Refer to C2280D-22

      Refer to C250-5

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit.
    No  GO to  AY9
  10. AY9 CHECK THE IGNITION SWITCH

    • Perform the ignition switch component test.

    Is the ignition switch OK? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new steering column lock and ignition switch housing. REFER to: Steering Column Lock and Ignition Switch Housing .
    No  INSTALL a new ignition switch. REFER to: Ignition Switch .
  11. AY10 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect the BCM and all related in-line connectors.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the BCM and all related in-line connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new BCM. REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
