Pinpoint Test T : The Sync Connect Remote Start Feature Is Inoperative

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2018 Ford EcoSport. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

Refer to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS - 1.0L or Refer to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS - 2.0L for schematic and connector information.

The vehicle does not remote start if any of the following conditions are present:

    • The feature is disabled using the message center settings.
    • The hood is not closed.
    • The vehicle is not in PARK.
    • A powertrain system DTC is present, illuminating the service engine soon indicator.
    • The ignition is on.
    • The alarm system is activated.
    • The vehicle battery voltage is low.

    Possible Sources

    • Wiring, terminals or connectors
    • Remote start feature not enabled
    • Hood ajar switch input concern
    • Door ajar switch input concern
    • TR input concern
    • Powertrain concern
    • BCM

  2. NOTE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
  3. NOTE: This pinpoint test does not diagnose dealer installed remote start systems.
  4. T1 CHECK THE REMOTE START FEATURE ENABLE/DISABLE SETTING

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using the steering wheel control switch, check the remote start feature setting in the message center.

Is the remote start feature enabled?

    Yes  GO to  T2
No  ENABLE the remote start feature.
  5. T2 CHECK THE PARK DETECT SWITCH INPUT

    • Verify the PRNDL displays correctly in the IPC. When the vehicle is in PARK, the P should be highlighted or displayed prominently.

    Does the PRNDL display correctly?

    Yes  GO to  T3
No  DIAGNOSE the PRNDL. REFER to: Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes .
  6. T3 CHECK FOR BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the BCM self-test.

Are any BCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present?

Yes  REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) .
    No  GO to  T4
  7. T4 CHECK FOR PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the PCMKOEO and the KOER self-tests.

Are any PCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present?

Yes  REFER to DTC CHART: POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) (1.0L) or refer to DTC CHART: POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)
    No  GO to  T5
  8. T5 CHECK THE WAKE-UP CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE AT THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) USING THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) PID (PARAMETER IDENTIFICATION) PCM WAKE-UP OUTPUT CONTROL (PCM_WKUP_CTRL)

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect PCM B connector.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, command the BCMPID PCM_WKUP_CTRL on.

    • Measure:

      1.0 L

Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      Refer to C1232B-28

      Ground

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

    Yes  GO to  T7
    No  GO to  T6
  9. T6 CHECK THE WAKE-UP CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect BCM C2280E.

    • Measure:

      1.0 L

Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      Refer to C1232B-28
      GFD328352Courtesy of FORD MOTOR COMPANY
      Refer to C2280E-10

      Refer to C2280E-10

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

    Yes  GO to  T7
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  10. T7 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Inspect the BCM connector.

    • Repair:

      • Corrosion (clean module pins or install new connectors or terminals)
      • Damaged or bent pins (install new terminals or pins)
      • Pushed-out pins (install new pins as necessary)

    • Reconnect the BCM connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present?

Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new BCM. REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) .
No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
