Test F: Incorrect Key Code From Ignition Key Transponder

NOTE:
Large metallic objects on the same key ring with PATS ignition key may cause vehicle starting problems and record DTCs under certain conditions. If a fault cannot be identified, examine key ring for such objects. If objects are found that could interfere with PATS operation, turn ignition switch to LOCK position and restart engine with all metallic objects held away from ignition key.
- Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below center of instrument panel, right of steering column. Using NGS tester, perform instrument cluster self-test. If DTC B1601 exists, go to next step. If DTC B1601 does not exist, system is functioning properly at this time. Check all encoded keys to ensure they are programmed.
- Using NGS tester, monitor instrument cluster PID NUMKEYS. If PID indicates any number other than "8", go to next step. If PID indicates "8", erase and reprogram all ignition keys. See ERASE ALL KEYS & PROGRAM 2 KEYS under PROGRAMMING. Repeat self-test and clear DTCs.
- If at least 2 programmed encoded ignition keys are available, go to next step. If 2 programmed encoded ignition keys are not available, cut and program new ignition key(s). See ERASE ALL KEYS & PROGRAM 2 KEYS under PROGRAMMING. After ignition keys are programmed, go to next step.
- Using NGS tester, monitor instrument cluster PID SPARE_KY. If PID indicates ENABLE, perform ERASE ALL KEYS & PROGRAM 2 KEYS under PROGRAMMING, then go to next step. If PID does not indicate ENABLE, perform ENABLE/DISABLE SPARE KEY PROGRAMMING , under PROGRAMMING then go to next step.
- Attempt to start vehicle using first encoded ignition key. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove ignition key. Attempt to start vehicle using second encoded ignition key. If vehicle does not start with both ignition keys, go to next step. If vehicle starts with both ignition keys, system is functioning properly at this time.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, retrieve and record instrument cluster continuous DTCs. Clear continuous DTCs. Perform instrument cluster self-test using both keys used in step 5) . If DTC B1601 does not exist, system is functioning properly at this time. If any other DTCs are present, perform appropriate test. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC B1601 exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
