Removal And Installation

REMOVAL 

1. Disconnect and isolate both of the battery negative cables.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
3. Partially drain the cooling system. Refer to COOLING - STANDARD PROCEDURE .
4. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
5. Remove the upper radiator hose.
6. Remove the shroud assembly, viscous fan, and fan drive. Refer to FAN, COOLING, VISCOUS, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
7. Remove the belt tensioner. Refer to TENSIONER, BELT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION, 6.7L .
8. Raise and support the vehicle.
9. Remove the power steering pump. Refer to PUMP, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
10. Remove the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor. Refer to SENSOR, CRANKSHAFT POSITION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION, 6.7L .
11. Remove the vibration damper. Refer to DAMPER, VIBRATION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION, 6.7L .
12. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.

    NOTE:

    Bolts (1, 3) are different lengths and not interchangeable. Longer bolt locations are noted with a star.

13. Remove the bolts (1, 3) and the timing cover (2) by gently prying the cover away from the housing, taking care not to mar the gasket surfaces.

INSTALLATION 

1. A new oil seal must be used any time the front cover is removed and reinstalled. Refer to SEAL, CRANKSHAFT OIL, FRONT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION, 6.7L . New front cover assemblies come with a new oil seal pre-installed.
2. Clean the cover and the gear housing gasket mating surfaces and use caution not to damage the surface. Ensure these surfaces are clean of prior sealant material and do not sand these mating surfaces as this will cause potential leaks. Ensure the front crankshaft seal lip and the crankshaft mating surfaces are free from all oil residue to prevent seal leaks.
3. Inspect the gear housing and front cover for damage or cracks and replace if necessary. Inspect the crankshaft mating surface for any grooves or nicks that would affect the integrity of the new seal. Ensure the surface is free of debris before installing the crankshaft seal.

4. If equipped, remove and discard the plastic seal pilot (2) from the front cover (3).

5. Ensure the tool surface (1) is clean and free of grooves or nicks.
6. Place the (special tool #2063200090, Tool, Timing Cover Alignment) (1) on a level work surface, and push the front cover assembly (2) onto the tool (1). The front cover assembly is properly seated to the tool when the front face of the cover bottoms out on the magnetic surface of the tool.

7. Remove the top cone section of the Timing Cover Alignment Tool, while leaving the bottom section of the Timing Cover Alignment Tool (2) installed in the front cover (1).
   NOTE:

   Front cover must be installed on the engine within 10 minutes of applying sealant.

8. Apply a bead of Mopar® Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant or equivalent to the engine side of the cover only. Be sure to surround all through the holes.

9. Position the bottom section of the Timing Cover Alignment Tool (1) to the crankshaft nose, and install the front cover assembly to the engine by pushing evenly on the cover.
10. Install one bolt at the 3 o'clock and another at the 9 o'clock positions finger tight.

11. Remove the bottom section of the Timing Cover Alignment Tool (1).

    NOTE:

    Bolts (1, 3) are different lengths and not interchangeable. Longer bolt locations are noted with a star.

12. Install the remaining bolts (1, 3) finger tight. Tighten the bolts in a clockwise direction starting at the upper right to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
13. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
14. Install the vibration damper. Refer to DAMPER, VIBRATION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION, 6.7L .
15. Install the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor. Refer to SENSOR, CRANKSHAFT POSITION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION, 6.7L .
16. Install the power steering pump. Refer to PUMP, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
17. Install the belt tensioner. Refer to TENSIONER, BELT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION, 6.7L .
18. Install the fan drive, viscous fan, and the shroud assembly. Refer to FAN, COOLING, VISCOUS, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
19. Install the upper radiator hose.
20. Fill the coolant system. Refer to COOLING - STANDARD PROCEDURE .
21. Connect both of the battery negative cables.
22. Start engine and take vehicle on a short test drive. Verify no oil leak is present by using a blacklight for inspection. Ensure there is dye in the oil prior to inspection of oil leak after front crank seal is installed.
