Removal And Installation

REMOVAL
- Remove the serpentine belt. Refer to BELT, SERPENTINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION, 6.7L .
- Remove the viscous cooling fan. Refer to FAN, COOLING, VISCOUS, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
.NOTE:
Ensure that the friction shim stays with the damper when it is removed. It will need to be reinstalled with the damper.
- Remove the four bolts (1), vibration damper (2), and friction shim.
INSTALLATION
NOTE:
The transmission adapter cover (2) is located on the right side of the converter housing.
- Remove the transmission adapter cover bolt (1) and loosen the other bolt (3). Rotate the cover (2) to gain access for the barring tool to be installed.
- Install the Barring Tool (special tool #7471B, Barring Tool) with breaker bar.
- Be sure that the friction shim (1) is installed, and that the damper is installed so the hole is located over the dowel pin.
- Install the friction shim, the vibration damper (2) and bolts (1). While holding the breaker bar to prevent the engine from turning, tighten the bolts (1) to 50 N.m (37 ft. lbs.). Loosen the bolts 360° turn. Tighten the bolts (1) to 45 N.m (33 ft. lbs.) plus an additional 60° turn in a criss-cross pattern.
- Remove the Barring Tool (special tool #7471B, Barring Tool)
- Install the transmission adapter cover (2) and tighten the bolts (1, 3) to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the viscous cooling fan. Refer to FAN, COOLING, VISCOUS, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Install the serpentine belt. Refer to BELT, SERPENTINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION, 6.7L .
