Removal - Camshaft

- Remove the battery negative cable.
- Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Drain coolant. (Refer to COOLING - STANDARD PROCEDURE) .
- Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to ACCESSORY DRIVE .
- Remove the generator.
- Remove the A/C compressor, and set aside.
- Remove the radiator. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Remove intake manifold. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Remove cylinder head covers. (Refer to ENGINE/CYLINDER HEAD/CYLINDER HEAD COVER(S) - REMOVAL) .
1 - CYLINDER HEAD COVER 2 - GASKET 3 - FASTENERS 4 - CYLINDER HEAD 5 - HEAD GASKET - Remove both left and right cylinder heads (4). Refer to REMOVAL .
- Remove the oil pan. (Refer to ENGINE/LUBRICATION/OIL PAN - REMOVAL) .
- Remove timing case cover (1). (Refer to ENGINE/VALVE TIMING/TIMING BELT / CHAIN COVER(S) - REMOVAL) .
- Remove the oil pick up tube.
- Remove the oil pump. (Refer to ENGINE/LUBRICATION/OIL PUMP - REMOVAL) .

1 - Chain Tensioner 2 - Camshaft Sprocket 3 - Crankshaft Sprocket - Remove timing chain (2). (Refer to ENGINE/VALVE TIMING/TIMING BELT/CHAIN AND SPROCKETS - REMOVAL) .
- Remove camshaft tensioner/thrust plate assembly.
1 - TAPPET RETAINER 2 - HYDRAULIC ROLLER TAPPET NOTE: Identify lifters to ensure installation in original location. - Remove the tappets (2) and retainer (1) assembly.
- Install a long bolt into front of camshaft to aid in removal of the camshaft. Remove camshaft, being careful not to damage cam bearings with the cam lobes.
