Cylinder Head: Removal

- Perform the Fuel System Pressure Release procedure (Refer to FUEL SYSTEM/FUEL DELIVERY - STANDARD PROCEDURE) . Disconnect the fuel supply line (Refer to FUEL SYSTEM/FUEL DELIVERY/QUICK CONNECT FITTING - STANDARD PROCEDURE) .
- Disconnect the battery negative cable.
- Drain cooling system (Refer to COOLING - STANDARD PROCEDURE) .
- Remove the air cleaner resonator and duct work. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Remove closed crankcase ventilation system.
- Disconnect the evaporation control system.
- Unplug the ignition coil (1).
- Remove ignition coil mounting bolts (3).
- Disconnect heater hoses.
- Remove the power steering pump.
- Disconnect the exhaust at the exhaust manifolds.
- Remove the ignition coils (1).
- Unbolt the cylinder head covers using the sequence provided.
1 - CYLINDER HEAD COVER 2 - GASKET 3 - FASTENERS 4 - CYLINDER HEAD 5 - HEAD GASKET - Remove the cylinder head cover (1). Refer to REMOVAL .
- Remove intake manifold and throttle body as an assembly. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Remove rocker arm assemblies and push rods. Identify to ensure installation in original locations. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Remove the head bolts from each cylinder head, using the sequence provided, and remove cylinder heads. Discard the cylinder head gasket.
